Pretty surprised he made that much money.

I think that salary is generous given his job responsibilities: "Will work with the program's recruiting efforts, handle special projects assigned by head coach Brian Kelly and assist in the social media strategies and execution of the football program." For reference, PR / social media people at F500 firms generally start at around $40K.

Director of recruiting J.R. Sandlin no longer with UT football » GoVolsXtra

$55K was the number UT paid him apparently.

My company, F50, pays entry level media relations (mostly social media, internal media, etc, hardly anything external) $58K. The lady that we have working for us now in our group came from Discovery Channel where she worked on "The Deadliest Catch".

The only difference I really see are the kids that are already academically challenged are off the board. Other than that, they put their pants on one leg at a time, like to listen to the same music and eat Taco Bell at 2:00AM.

I like the hire, but I wonder if he'll hang around for more than 2 years? Especially if someone is offering $5K more a year. He's young and youngens' tend to look at money first when it comes to jobs.

i knew he wouldn't stick, but that was even faster then I figured!

I liked his creativity but some of his tweets were very embarrassing. His writing skills were atrocious, even for twitter.

yeah i thought he was a bit borderline with some of his tweets compliance wise and his fawning over Matt Elam was kinda embarrassing

Head Coach at Jacksonville St and JR had coached together previously at a High School program. Might not seem like "big" move going from Notre Dame to an unknown Jacksonville St, but his title at ND wasnt really a position where you stick around for years.

Elam tweets are what many on here are saying about Elam, Stroking his ego, making him feel like he is the man. Its all part of recruiting. Elam wanting to be the "popular" kid is exactly what JR gave him without committing a violation. The kid was all over espn, cnn, internet, and social media for the Pot of Gold.

The first tweet I saw about this didn't mention the TE coach part and I was puzzled but once I saw that it makes sense. Like others have said I'm sure he wants to be an actual coach and this is the beginning of that.

Best of luck!

Will be interested to see who they have lined up.

Fister has been doing the job unofficially for years, no need to advertise

Well, I think we have a blueprint on how to approach the position. Should be easy to follow for the next guy in if he uses it. Good luck, JR!

Well I totally missed this boat. Read the beginning of the thread, without seeing the date, and was starting to get excited about the hire... awkward.

Really sucks that we got the guy for less than a year. I thought he was doing a great job, hopefully the next guy continues to put ND in a positive light for prospective recruits.

Leah Knight , recruiting operations coord at USF, is interviewing at ND for a similar position. Didn't think it needs its own thread so I figured I'd toss it here.

At Alabama, she worked as a member of the UA Student Recruitment Team and contributed to the Crimson Tide Football program’s number one ranked recruiting class of 2013.

She's cute, not hot but cute. I don't mind a girl getting the position. They tend to be a little more creative then guys, plus they know what a guys hot buttons are so so could use that to her advantage when communicating with recruits.

Actually it may be the marketing coups of the decade for ND to hire a woman with a southern accent to be the first face of contact for the recruits. Would stop about 52% of the negative recruiting, in my book!

Nearly forgot about this, but it was JR Sandlin's Jacksonville State Gamecocks that nearly upset mighty Auburn last weekend. #StayCocky. He's currently the TE coach there, and does their recruiting for them as well.

Booker, you better get your act together!
