Just curious, but how did they recruit him? They called him and he said no thanks or what?

Article with some info

Relevant portion:

Alabama, Florida, Pitt and Miami (Fla.) are additional schools that have made a strong push since Mokwuah's commitment to Rutgers. For instance, Mario Cristobal, Alabama offensive line coach, has stopped in twice over the past few months but hasn't been able to get Mokwuah on campus.

Mokwuah has stood strong throughout an onslaught of football factories, but there is something about Notre Dame, that has caught his eye.

I'm 99% sure this is already answered in this thread or in the Upshot thread.

His coach said that a lot of schools have come by recently to try to get him to visit. He specifically said that both Florida and Alabama stopped by the school and tried to get him to take a visit but he said no thanks. He said Notre Dame is different because of the spirituality/academics and he puts a serious premium on those... basically, ND is the only school he would consider flipping from Rutgers for because he found it unique.

Weird kid, but in a good way! Thank God.

Nice!!! That's why I love IE! BK never tweeted "we are nd" like he always does though. Must be too busy grinding away on the trail. Good news though!

Here's another piece, after his junior season, talking to the St. Joseph by-the-Sea coach about Mr. Mokwuah.

Here's the inside scoop on Rutgers-bound Peter Mokwuah, a football player at St. Joseph by-the-Sea | SILive.com

On his lack of publicity:

Schools found him. Whoever you want to name, they've been here. And they usually leave here offering him a scholarship to whatever degree they can. SEC schools, the Big Ten, ACC, you name it. They were in here. So I guess I could call the recruiting sites and give them all the offers to make it look better, but he was being recruited a lot harder than by three schools. He was getting recruited by just about everybody. All the schools were really high on him and wanted to get him down. I've got to think things would have gotten even crazier if he had given it a little more time. We just thought Rutgers was the way to go. But there were probably, over the last couple weeks, 40 schools in here.

:D

There is nothing like having a mature and seriously focused young man in your program. Everything I have been reading about Pete gets me excited, with this staff and Peter's focus and physical gifts this is a slam dunk. Huge huge pick up, I think this class just got it's anchor. Everything else is gravy! Congratulations Peter and to the Mokwuah family. Also congrats to "the stache".

I like this kid better than Elam. High ceiling but more importantly he gets what ND is all about. Kid will be a winner both on and off the field.
