Welcome to the Big Leagues, @NDFootball fans. Alabama just celebrated their juniors leaving early. That's all good and fine, Keith, but I think those of us who are troubled by recent events are concerned about the health of the program if some key components to the team leave.

This is my camp. Who's with me?

I'm going to bed. Don't bother waking me when Brian Kelly takes an NFL job and both our freshmen RBs transfer tonight.

Dumb tweet. Players leaving early at Bama have a much smaller impact than when it happens at ND.

It's true that we can't really celebrate both Kelly's up-til-now great record at keeping "six-star recruits" like Te'o, Floyd, Eifert, Nix and celebrate three-and-outs living the dream of playing on Sunday.
But the goal should be to have the depth to work through this sort of thing. In Niklas and Atkinson's case, I think we probably do. Less confident about replacing Tuitt.

It's crazy how he is already eligible for the draft..it seems like yesterday he was playing DE at Servite high school. I meet his Dad a few weeks back at a high school football game. His dad went to high school with mine and he was a stud linebacker. His dad is about 5"10. Great guy. When Troy played DE his senior year he picked off Max Wittek and took it back to the house. I really loved watching him play and was stoked when he picked us. Good Luck Troy!

"The Irish have only had only seven players go three-and-out in the past decade, but three of them have done so in the past five days"

I think that's more of a sign of progress on the field than anything.

Tuitt - Exceptional recruit and an All-American who shouldn't risk injury.
Atkinson - A draft-worthy player who will lose his spot to a Sophomore and RS Freshman.
Koyack - A OL recruit shaped into a top-notch TE who, unlike Eifert, took off a year ahead of schedule.

Koyack is leaving now? WHAT IS GOING ON?

Exactly. What do some of these people want? Guys who pan out and stake their claim early, or guys who shit the bed and squat the whole time?

But isn't it a good thing, in the big picture? Sure it hurts the 2014 team, but it means that we getting much better players than we were previously.

What do some people want? An off season where we don't get a lot of bad news perhaps? The Niklas thing is just compounded frustration of what we've lost contributing to another mediocre year.

It's too bad this isn't like NCAA games where you can promise a guy a bunch of things or just spend recruiting hours to get him to come back. Works like a charm every time.

Late to the party. Surprised to say the least. Amado, Enron, Sefarian-Jenkins, will all for sure go ahead of him. He had a lot to gain by coming back. His degree and lots of money via draft.

Wish him the best. Its his life.

Who was the last DL recruit we had go first round?
This year we're talking a possibility of two of them.
Niklas leaving basically confirms our reputation as TE U.
It's not like we have scrubs waiting in the wings.
Sure they may not block as well, but we don't know that yet.
All signs point to this being a good thing for the team recruiting going forward.
I just hate what it's going to do for the RZ offense.

Turnover is part of college sports. I am as likely to get pissed about a given situation as the next guy, so I'm just thinking out loud and not admonishing anyone else. But it is kind of amazing that we have maintained the ability to freak the fuck out when players come and go considering that it happens to everyone every year. It is the nature of the sport. You can't sign your studs to seven year deals in college. The better they are, the sooner they leave. Some guys fail out. Some transfer. Some get hurt. They graduate. The beat goes on.

"What's your New Year's resolution, GITF?"

"GIVING UP CARING SO DAMN MUCH ABOUT ND EFFING FOOTBALL, THATS WHAT."

Lol I've been trying to do this for YEARS. I wish I could quit you, ND.

Anyway Welch can stay? Lol

Lol seriously he pulled a Kiel!

Honestly though, this likely just means more one TE sets with a true slot WR (come on Hunter!) We ran more 2 TEs this past year bc Rees couldn't move and we didn't have a legit option in the slot. With Golson back, he will keep the D honest and Harry will figure out the Oline.... But damn Troy could have had a big year.

Yep. With a mobile QB whose running ability opposing defenses will have to respect, we can go back to being a real spread team.

I think that's more of a sign of progress on the field than anything.

Stop making so much sense in this thread.
