Exactly, Wiltfong said it well the other day. ND lets all these kids know what they need to do and its up to the kid to see it through. We are starting to find out right now who actually did. What I would like to know from somebody that does. Does ND gets status reports from the school as the year goes on or do we rely on the kids to do so? Reason I ask is because it wouldn't surprise me if in some of these instances we take the kids word for it and they are actually lying or maybe being less that truthful.

A bit of both. We can request transcripts/report cards, and kids and teachers can provide word of mouth progress updates. You're right though... if you're asking a kid how he's doing in school and he's saying "great! I got an A on my test!" and then he ends up with a D in the class it just is what it is.

I don't know, but I would guess because of privacy laws (FERPA), ND isn't privy to any information unless it's provided by the student or his parents. Therefore, it's taking the kids word for it. You know some of these kids have to be saying one thing to keep the coaches happy and interested while they know what is really happening.

I honestly don't think some kids get it. They don't get that when we say you have to do this and you have to do that, they just don't realize that we mean it. You don't get to come here if you don't do it, period. Obviously it sounds like some do, Mckenzie seemed to, but he was starting so far behind the 8 ball.

Is Quick still a realistic ND recruit right now?

247 seems to think he's coming here with their crystal ball.

Yes. At last word it's a toss-up between ND, OU and UCLA.

The people who claim to be "in the know" don't sound very optimistic about this one. I have to say I believe that over the recruiting sites.

I just have a bad feeling about Fresno kids after Tee and Greenberry. Even though Tee wanted to be at ND. Something in the water up there.

There are different circumstances with "academics". Some kids need test scores, some need courses, some need gpas up, some need all. I dont think its fair to the kid to speculate on what those are, unless he has been forthcoming like McKenzie. ND has been cautious after the Tee Shepard situation and doing their research but still you are going to have kids that the staff is split on. 1 coach may think its a cant miss kid, while another thinks its reach. Then add in if the kid does need to do something in the classroom, it def complicates things, but thats the nature of recruiting.

And believe it or not...there are kids that will get into ND that dont meet the criteria needed for most of the other class. Kelly has done a decent job at getting those kids in, and turning to kid into a "RKG" on and off the field. Obviously, not all of them have turned out, but thats the risk you take at ND. I think Quick is a kid that will be take unless there is just something glaring and that would have been addressed already.

Will the coaching staff be there to close on him though?

The million dollar question. Although heck... I'm not even sure he's going to qualify for ND... so this might all be a moot point.

A lot of people say this is an UCLA vs Oklahoma battle.

OU had a legion of "Fisters" on twitter working of him yesterday. That was too much heavy..

Bad in every case

Disagree, but let's leave it at that.

Before the dead period, he talked to Denbrock twice a week. The staff hasn't given his spot away so he knows how important he is to the staff. Really likes the tradition and he even said "they have that good quarterback coming back this year too". Has visits to UCLA and USC and will cut down his list to 3 or 4 before NSD.

His favorites are ND, Bama, Oklahoma, Oregon, UCLA, USC

2 visits?

UCLA and USC?

Yeah, anyone have Scout?

I'm really starting to think the ship has sailed for us with Quick. Maybe it's a moot point as I don't know if he ever got his academics straightened out, but that's just the vibe I get. I also don't think it helps that he's boys with Tee Shephard.

Wouldn't be surprised if his top three is USC, UCLA, and OU with ND just being a hat on the table.

Might have missed the boat here. Thought Tee still liked ND.

From Scout Article:

He says he has six finalists and all of them are pretty high, will cut down to three or four in a few weeks not sure when. Finalists are Bama, ND, OK, USC, UCLA, Oregon. Fitting into the offense, tradition, and a good QB coming back are the high points for ND. We did not give his spot away so he knows we really want him. All of the schools are there for a reason, he just needs to decide which one feels the best for him.

I do too. We don't have a WR with elite skills, and at safety we at least had Redfield and a bunch of young, pretty talented guys.

Although I still like Tori Hunter as my 'steal of the 2013' class.
