I think we're better than that.

Sending 477 pieces of random mail does seem a little ridiculous.
But I'm all for it now that it has a meaning and a message- I think it's purpose is to show them how much better we really are. Not only does it show a recruit that we're very much interested, it communicates the tradition here in a rather uniquely powerful way. Saying the words 477 drafts picks is impressive for a second, but having photos and bios of each man impresses on you in a way that words just can't just how good ND has been for just how long a stretch of time.

Outside of sending them DVD's of Rudy, I can't think of a better way to explain what our "tradition" means

You have to find ways to differentiate yourself and catch a kids attention, I agree it seems just a tad absurd but the reaction of all the kids seems to show they are enjoying it and its been powerful. Let's see if we can reel in any of the remaining big fish.

I don't think is anything wrong with marketing the ND brand in a positive manner. People probably thought it was stupid for ND to trademark their logo at one point too.....

Either way, better to hear about this now than on NSD. At least the kid isn't going to coward route and bailing last minute with no heads up.

^ This. I know this is going to sound like butthurt, but I honestly was hoping that when he announced, it was to Bama and not us. I really think that would have helped out chances of landing Schultz. Hopefully we can still get him since this doesn't seem likely to end well, one way or another.
