Good luck, Philly. I'll be graduating in May and I applied regular decision back in 2009/2010. If you get in the letter they send you will be one of the most amazing things you'll ever receive.

Ok I've been really stuck on this ND supplements for a couple days now.

1. In his 2005 inaugural address, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., president of the University of Notre Dame, challenged our community: “We at Notre Dame must have the courage to be who we are. If we are afraid to be different from the world, how can we make a difference in the world?” When you leave Notre Dame, what is one way you will bravely face the world, stay true to your values, and make a difference large or small?

2. What is your proudest accomplishment that doesn’t appear on your résumé — an act for which you did not receive a trophy, grade, or other type of outward recognition?

3. Tell us about a time you fell in love… with an academic concept. What excited you about this idea, project, or lesson?

4. Why are you interested in attending the University of Notre Dame?

5. By the end of the college application process, you will have probably written dozens of essays and responded to a multitude of questions. Use this opportunity to try something new.

150-300 words each. You have to choose 3 of the 5. I am pretty confident that the essays I wrote for #3 and #4 turned out well but I've had trouble deciding on a 3rd.

So tonight I began working on prompt #5 and Instead of a normal essay I just started writing a story in Limericks. I wanted to be unique with it and kinda thought prompt #5 would be a perfect place to do this. Thoughts?

I've said this before, if anybody on here gets denied and truly wants to be at ND please PM me. I transferred in and it was the best decision of my life. I will gladly walk anybody through the process of transferring.

To elaborate, the only time you should talk about your love of anything Notre Dame is if:
1. There is some specific academic/service opportunity you think you're uniquely qualified to take advantage of because of XYZ that you did in high school.
2. Your ancestors literally built the school and/or your name is on a current building.

Listen to these guys. Highlight any unique high school experiences and try and connect them with unique opportunities at ND. Don't talk about sports at all and don't waste time talking about your random relative who went to ND.

I didn't do this but I know others that focused on spiritual growth in their essays.

Philly, just be creative and try to showcase your writing and critical thinking skills. I answered a similar essay question by writing some nonsense about how when I was a toddler my mom tried to teach me to put things away and I put my shoes in the refrigerator because I thought that was "putting them away," and how I liked the story because it taught me to think about the purpose rules are designed to address rather than just follow the letter of the law or something ... I don't really remember and it was half-made up but it sounded good and I got in. So just be creative and I'm sure it'll turn out great.

At the risk of "piling on," I'll add my vote to the "avoid ending sentences with a preposition" cadre. While not an absolute grammatical no-no, it's all too often awkward and not the "best practice."

Should you opt for poetry I'd avoid the Limerick. The football team may be known as The Fighting Irish but the school was founded by French priests. Be daring. Go with Haiku. Show an international bent.

Regardless, best of luck to you, Irish or otherwise.

And if it doesn't work out remember its not the school, it's the individual.

Plus you can always transfer in. The standards are a bit more lax on transfer applications (but you'll need a solid college GPA!).

Xavier is a really good school...nlroma10 went there and he's doing very well for himself (although he's dating a UM grad, yuk; then again she's smokin' so I forgive him). Good job on getting in with some nice $$$ thrown in. Good luck with ur other schools...

Say that you would very much like to attend ____ University but you won't be able to without some financial assistance in the form of a scholarship or other aid. Then take it from there. They might ask you what you've received from other schools.
