How many elite TEs are we going for in 2015? Why not take all 3, redshirt a couple so we don't necessarily have to take one next year. How can you pass up arguably 3 of the top 5 TEs in the country?

This is what I was kind of hoping for too. But, there are no guarantees on 5th years for anybody and I think 5 in 2 years (for what amounts to 1 1/2 position spots for playing time) would lead to almost a certain transfer (or two).

So I think the staff is better off spreading them out on the roster.

Great video. If he loves ND that much but is still a heavy Stanford lean, then I would have to guess that what he wants to major in may be the big key to his decision.

If ND was looking to take 2 TE in this class and 1 in 2015 then with Alize Jones off the board I would rather overload with 3 in this class as these 3 are to good to pass up especially Schultz.

The thing with these 3 is that they are very different TE prospects.

Schultz is the complete TE that's good at everything but not the best at any one thing. He is a security blanket for a QB who will catch everything he's suppose to and be as consistent as can be. Reminds me of the one Cowboy that I don't hate and that is Jason Witten. His game isn't exciting and he doesn't get the hype but every year he's always one of the best.

Nic Weishar who is more or less a carbon copy of Tyler Eifert. Make no mistake Schultz can be a Flex-TE but IMO at ND he's a better fit to be a pass catching TE but in the more tradition sense of staying inline. Whereas Weishar like Eifert is best suited to being the Flex-TE being moved around constantly creating mismatches with his length, strength and athleticism.

Then there is Tyler Luatua, the TE who's the fastest and best blocker of the bunch but he's also the shortest at 6'3 and the least reliable hands. With his speed and athleticism he could be a Flex-TE and used how 49ers use Vernon Davis or he could be used as a traditional TE and take advantage of his elite blocking ability. However I like him best as H-back, not only would it improve blocking but the mismatches it could create especially in short yardage would be mind boggling.

But they all redshirt, so the 2015 recruit would essentially become a 2016 recruit, which Schultz can't do.

I looked into this a couple weeks back, and I found conflicting stories. One site said that he is not LDS; another said that he is LDS but his family is inactive.

Either way, he's unlikely to take a mission, unless he "gets religion" sometime soon.
