So the wife is putting our baby to bed, and I decided to go slumming and take a look at USC's "Peristyle". Now, this is a subscription site, and normally I would never post premium stuff, but this is just SC fans talking on a thread entitled "Does Manti Deserve the Heisman?" - it's not premium content at all. Plus I hate those dudes so much I just had to post this somewhere.

But check out some of these responses:

- "Other than Max's pass that hit him right spang in the facemask, he did very little against us."

- "The third best defensive player on a defense that isn't exactly dominating in the first place? I'd take a pass."

- "Teo is the MOST overrated college football player in the nation. He got another lucky pick that hit him in the face. Plus that we're talking about an overweight LB with maybe 4.7 speed (on a good day). No way."

- "Te'o wourld be the worst winner at least since Torretta, and maybe since Hornung."

- "Teo also had more vultured tackles than just about anyone. He's always diving a pile like Ray Lewis to get the "assist". Stack his solo tackles up with the to LB and he seriously lags."

- "Teo has to be the most overrated player in college football. ordinary sums it up." (This was written by the biggest d-bag ever on that site. He bagged on ND all year, predicted a huge blow-out, and then still talks sh!t afterwards. Such a moron.)

- "Te'o (Chris Fowler: please stop calling him Manti TAYOW, as in Junior Seau) would not be the worst choice ever--I think Troy Smith, Mark Ingram (over Suh), Danny Wuerffel (over Orlando Pace), Hornung, John Huarte, etc...etc....But the way the media over dramatizes this geezer is gagging me. It is worse than the Tebow-mania last year."

- "If hes the best choice then there should be no heisman given this year"

- "Heisman has been a joke for year and years
Clowney is the best defensive player in the nation hands down.
Te'o is a joke winner and a media darling."

And then you had the one guy with a brain:

- "Mante Teo is not only the best player on his team he is also the heart and soul. He finally has talent to play around him. He is exactly the type of middle linebacker I want on my team. For those that don't see that your talent evaluations are sorry. Stop being poor losers and respect the game. The kid is a certified first rounder and potentially a Heisman trophy winner. That's what hard work and dedication mixed with 5 stars gets you. Much love to Teo. Good job kid."

It was either troll them and tell them how stupid they are, or come on here and 'vent'. Since I don't troll (anymore), I decided to vent over here. But seriously, what a bunch of pathetic, know-nothing about football losers. I can see the argument against Te'o winning the award, but fellas, at least know the game. Damn those were some brutally ignorant comments...

Isn't Hornung the kind of Heisman winner that would be popular with that thinking? The reason why Te'o is being considered is because he's the best player on the #1 team. Yeah people might dislike this and there are flaws in that logic, but Hornung won because he was the best player in the country but on a terrible team. Make up your mind, whiny U$C fans.

I don't see the problem here.......................... much rather have my SC fan delusional and crying after a loss than not even caring enough to comment because ND isn't anywhere near their level.

Wow.. thanks for sharing. It would have taken some serious self restraint to not go after those just plain ignorant Trojans. Were not here saying marqise lee is overrated cuz he didn't score any touchdowns. We recognize and respect talent hard to believe they cant do the same. Wow

Nice work, as always, LA. That interception was a thing of beauty. The amazing thing is that 2011 Te'o would not have come close to making that play. Lee would have made the catch and then turned it up field for a nice gain.

Before the pass interference calls, there was a run play where Redd was bursting up the middle and it looked like he might plow into the end zone. But all of a sudden he stopped... and started going backward. He made the mistake of running into Te'o. Kid is a machine.

By the way, USC did do a good job of limiting his playmaking abilities. They didn't throw a lot over the middle, where a young quarterback can easily get confused and throw a pick (exactly like Wittek ended up doing). Their fullback also had a good game; I remember one play in the first half where Te'o stepped up to fill the hole but their FB was right there to meet him, and either McNeal or Redd burst through for a 15-20 yard gain.

All in all, it wasn't Te'o's greatest performance, and it's easy to look at the "4 tackles" stat and surmise that he is overrated. But Te'o made the plays at the crucial times, like he's done all season. The interception, obviously; the hit on Redd I mentioned above that allowed the goal line stand to happen; and of course he was in the thick of the stand.

Seriously what a bunch of cry babies. Sore losers galore.

I think Kelly said it best in his USC post game presser. If your just gonna base the Heisman on offensive statistics and not what the actual definition the Heisman Trust gives for the winner than stop b.s.ing everyone and just make it another Offensive MVP trophy. Manti is the definition of a Heisman winner.

"Defense that isn't dominating" Well geez, maybe Lee isn't that good after all because he couldn't score a TD against this defense!

Since the Pitt game his number of tackles per game has almost been cut in half, anyone know why? The Pitt game was also when we began to see some longer runs as well. Has the scheme changed?

A lot of our team was battling illness (Lou wasn't supposed to play but did due to necessity, Manti admitted he was ill later, and I'm sure countless others weren't 100%) during the Pitt game and as a result, that game has been a statistical anomaly for our D. As far as Manti's productivity, as the season has progressed, teams are going out of their way to attempt to block him and/or run away from him. Number of tackles doesn't measure a defensive player's impact on the game because an offense will often go out of their way to avoid a player. I've seen Dwight Freeney and Julius Peppers change games without making a single play that showed up on the stat line just because of their mere presence and the offensive gameplan to avoid them. Te'o is commanding this type of attention which is affecting his statistical productivity.

Manti Te'o said it best in his interview. Just want to win National Championship and we now have a chance. Nobody better can win the Heisman.

Exactly; teams with (good) fullbacks take the middle line backer out of the game. If you don't have one, you need a good pulling guard or end in motion to target the middle line backer. If you don't have any of these, you just stay away from the middle of the field.
Targeting a defensive player is a detriment to the offense and gives an advantage to the defense.
Of course, if you do this, you lose, all things being equal.
It is much more difficult to take an offensive player out of the game especially against a balanced offense.

Teams have been planning around Manti since about mideseason because they know if left alone he will destroy them. USC using a fullback on almost every play is a good example. The lack of passes over the middle is another good example as previously mentioned.

Plus, they ran 51 plays. How are you going to put up huge numbers when they are only running that many plays, with a number of them being quick passes (or lonnnnnng bombs) to their receivers?

Joke of a fanbase for a joke of a team with a joke for a coach. It is exactly how I would expect them to act.
