Per Bill Kurelic Brian Kelly is interested in Fickell and meet him with this Thursday or Friday.
Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssssss if DC. If LB coach I could dig it.
Yeah, my thoughts too.
Although, something like co-DC with Cooks + LB coach I could definitely dig as well. What I don't want is him running the show on defense as the lead dog. If we're going to make an outside hire to do that, it has to be someone better than Fickell.
I think it has to be co-DC under Cooks, who would be co-DC/AHC, right? Fickell wouldn't take a demotion to position coach unless he is being forced out (which is possible).
The best part is all the awesome Adam Sandler gifts we could use.
“I don’t have a problem with the schematics, I have a problem with the details,” the coach said. “The fact is, when you get to the core values of what this defense is, they are not playing fast. One of my staff members played for (Jim Tressel) at Youngstown State and we’ve talked about this several times: it is pretty easy to see that Luke (Fickell) has gotten away from the core values that made this defense so fundamentally sound during the Tressel years.
“The problems that exist occur because of a break between philosophy and deployment. It is completely possible that Fickell is serving two masters, trying to run the defense the way that (Jim) Heacock and he always had, versus injecting some of the stuff that (Everett) Withers, (Kerry) Coombs and (Urban) Meyer himself are bringing to the table. What was a clean and simple manuscript of rules and laws of Ohio State defense is being littered with all these other ideas, because UFM has his prints on the program and has the right to his say, Withers has a title and has his say, so on and so forth.

I think people are focusing too much on the Urban portion of his career. He likely just never fit in under Urbie ... but look what he did under Tressel. Those were damn good defenses. We've been saying that the most important thing in college coaching is making sure you have a cohesive staff. I doubt Urbie had that with Fickell.
You're right. As we all know, Urban Liar inherited him. The admin promised him a job on staff after he held things together during the Tressel fisaco. Urban wasn't going to risk getting the job by telling the admin he didn't want him. Just a guess, but I'm thinking UM is a little too slimy for Fickell and some sort of a riff developed over time.
how did fickell do recruiting outside the state of ohio?
