Considering he'll most likely be on the interior that is a bold call. Or do you consider productive as playing time?

Production relative to position. Obviously Tuitt has more sacks than Lou, but I would say they are at least equal with Lou perhaps being more productive in the sense he does his job better than practically everyone else in the country. I feel Dickerson will be the same in that he will be one of those guys that will be a pillar of the DL. Don't know why I feel this, I just have a gut feeling.

Got it. I too think Dickerson will end up being a very good player I just may choose a different term but I get what your saying.

I think it will be Jay Hayes or, if he decides to join his Brooklyn brotha, Thomas Holley. Hayes just has that attitude that is similar to Nix. Plus, he just flat out balls. Holley is the same, and with Nix leaving, he'll have a chance to start immediately.

Dickerson is getting a visit from Elston today.

With the news that Holley has dropped us from consideration, Dickerson becomes that much more important.

I've heard some rumblings about concerns that the back injury that kept him out of football this fall could have long-term effects. According to this freebie from ISD, those rumors are unfounded:

Dickerson Opens Up On Injury

It took a while, but Dickerson has been able to find to see some positives in the situation.

“Things are going to hit you when you’re not expecting it and how are you going to face adversity,” he said. “In the beginning, I thought my life was over when it really wasn’t, meaning that my football life was over, but it wasn’t. It’s just a small, little injury. I’ve become a better man out of this process.

“Sometimes you have to start from the bottom when you think you’re at the top and work your way back up. It’s been life-changing. I’m actually glad this thing happened to me because you think nothing can ever happen to you, but when it does, it hits you and you have to face reality. I’m glad it happened because I’m going to be a stronger player than before and a lot more safe when I’m doing my lifts and conditioning and just work on strengthening my core and being a complete rock muscle-wise so I don’t get hurt again.”

The injury didn’t require surgery and shouldn’t be anything that will linger at all down the road.

“The doctor said I should be completely fine,”
Dickerson said. “I shouldn’t have any flare-ups at all. What’s done is done and nothing is going to change. He said the chances of me reinjuring my back are very, very, very low.

Here's another article about the injury:

Injury has kept Notre Dame-bound Dickerson on the Serra sideline during his senior year | Prep Sports | San Francisco | San Francisco Examiner

Incidentally, he seems like an impressive and articulate young man. I'm really excited to get him on campus and see what he can do. I'm hoping for an Isaac Rochell-like freshman year.

If he didn't require surgery and the Doc's telling him there shouldn't be any flare-ups or problems down the road, it sounds like chances are pretty good that this injury won't be an issue going forward. Which is huge first and foremost for Matt but also for our defense the next few years.

Eifert had a back injury in HS and as an ND freshman there was a concern that the injury would end his career.

One doesn't guarantee the other but I like the update. ND medical staff is up to date on back injuries.

Guys UCLA won't start recruiting Dickerson and Holmes till April. Thats how they roll. Plus I'm sure BK checked the family medical records first before accepting his commitment

Yea, not sure how that works. Somebody deserving got left off the list. I think he's a great prospect but AA and all stars are for production not potential.

Rumors being floated around that UCLA is making a huge push here. Same guy that got Eddie to flip. Offering a package deal to Matt and his sister.

Not good news. Always happens.

I'm beginning to understand the loathing USC folks have for UCLA.

Notre Dame believes he is solid. Would still like to see him take his official.

Per? Because Pete Sampson and Mike Frank both think ND believes he is at least contemplating UCLA. And yes, him taking his official here would / will be massive.
