Bend then break defense is gone....

Sucks losing 2 coordinators in one year and too add more drama to the 2013 calendar year. People inside the program saw this coming when Martin left. Diaco was a great coach and a players coach from the reactions but he did not take steps forward. I was happy with the defense until the Navy game. ND has players for an aggressive D, and thats not what Diaco coached. He knows more than I, but at the sametime, progression needs to take place.
ND having two coordinators go take HC jobs is great. It means the program is doing what its supposed to do. When was the last time a Coordinator took a job as a head coach at ND? It sucks, but dont think there isnt a plan in place. Kelly taking over Morgans recruitment is telling.
Kelly is making ND appealing for up and coming coordinators and coaches. Quinn/Martin/Diaco and Molnar all head coaches under him. Kellys starting his own coaching tree and it will only continue.
Not a shot at Diaco by any means...but what is he most known for? A 4am trip to Brooklyn. He secured Ishaqs commitment, but whats the most popular comment about Ishaq? Not living up to potential. Who is his position coach? Diaco has done a lot of good, but there are also a lot of puzzling things. Great guy and only wish him the best, bc he does have leadership qualities.
Think BIG picture. It really is putting Kelly in great spots for himself and for ND. The program is in great shape reguardless of what has happened in two weeks. Coordinators are there to become head coaches. Players are there to get to the league for the most part. Degrees are important and help them in life, but lets not kid ourselves....they come to ND to get to the league.
Go Irish.
Wait I thought they fired him when we lost to Michigan? As long as we have Longo, all is well!
Who is Mizzou's DC? Hire that guy, other than the Auburn game they played fantastic. And did it with kids that we didn't even offer a scholarship to. I hate the team with a serious passion but they fly around the field and team tackle well. They are not great tacklers as individuals but not bad considering they may only have 3 4 star guys on the whole team. Plus look how many first round picks they have had recently. It drives me crazy.
Great post…One of the things I wished he would have done was be more aggressive. I think the 'bend but don't break' was fine in 2012 but this year that was horrible to let teams drive and then hope your defense stops them. Also a random though I know programs lose coaches but how the hell is Kirby Smart still at Bama? You would think he would be a HC now.

From 2010-13, Notre Dame gave up an average of 19.1 points per game, good for ninth best in the country in that time frame. Considering the schedule the Irish played and the personnel Diaco inherited, there's no question he's earned the opportunity to lead a program.
If your happy he is gone your either crazy or just plain bitter. I remember last year people were calling for him to be the head coach here. The guy was one of the best defensive coordinators in the country. He was great for the program and the only reason I am a little upset is that he didn't get a better gig than Uconn.
Either way good luck to the man and thanks for everything he did.
Say what you want about Diaco. But Keith put it best in an article he just posted, and put up a pretty stunning stat.
