The pressure would be about equal IMO. Both fanbases are fanatical and both expect to win championships every year. Add in $10 mil a year and the pressure goes up quite a bit.

Saban is egotistical enough to maybe consider padding his legacy by taking Texas to the top but at his age and with his accomplishments already, is it really worth it? He has said starting over isn't in his future. But then again, he has said those things in the past. We will see I guess.

I wouldn't necessarily classify taking the Texas job as "starting over." It's not like he'd be taking over a struggling NFL franchise in a bad market.... Texas could be back on top in 2 years with the right coach.

yes, but i don't know of any Texas fans killing trees, after 1 loss selling their entire collection of memorabilia(Distraught Alabama fan selling everything on Craigslist and quitting on team - FanSided - Sports News, Entertainment, Lifestyle & Technology - 240+ Sites) , attempting to kill rival fans (Alabama Fan Shows That Sports, Too, Can Be Inhuman | Bleacher Report) or even worse KILLED someone Adrian Laroze Briskey Allegedly Killed Michelle Shepherd Because Auburn Beat Alabama

I realize this isn't the entire fan base....but holy sh#t they CRAZY!!!! #ROLLTIDE

The pressure wouldn't be anywhere near comparable imo... even if texas pays him 30 million... UT fans are not anywhere near that obsessed... there is plenty else to do in Austin.

When the big oil players throw out that kind of money the pressure will be on whoever takes the job. Couple that with the "entitlement" the Longhorn fans feel they have for some reason and it becomes a pressure cooker quickly. The pressure would be just as great or more. End of the day, Saban stays at Bama. Even he knows he cost his team this year. If Coker decides to enroll at Bama, Nick knows he has a great chance to win the title the next two years. At Texas, it would take him two years to get rid of the riff raff.

Entitlement of Longhorn fans?? I married into a partly Longhorn family and have spent a lot of time in Austin... no clue whatsoever what you are talking about Tommy... just saying... time will tell.

I too know many Longhorn fans and they have a sense that they are entitled to a great football program. I won't argue with them either. With all the talent they have available in that state, along with the occasional dip into their border states, and the endless supply of money... they should be a top ten team every year. I would be pissed if I were a Longhorn fan with the current state of their program. But to say that most Longhorn fans don't have a sense of entitlement is simply untrue. It is Texas after all... and everything is bigger and better in Texas... or so they say.

I don't think they are any worse than most other 'big name' fanbases in that regard... in fact I can think of one base that is FAR worse in that regard... just sayin.

You need to get them crazy Irish fans under control.

Texas won't matter when it's over and done with. Not enough room for Saban and Texas and BK leading the Texans.

The only way he leaves is for the money at this point. And not money for him but his kids kids. Unless Texas is willing to pay him in the $10 mil range, I can't see him packing up and leaving. If Sexton is wanting to get him a raise, Bama will ante up. If Texas wants to secure his family for generations to come, then it can get interesting. As far as how many raises he has had at Bama, I don't really know as it seems he gets a bump up every year.

If that's true and this thing gains legs, I can see the "enough is enough" scenario taking place.

I don't buy the age thing when he brings it up. I'm his age and I don't think about slowing down. I agree about his ego and if there is a little birdie chirping in his ear all the time telling him he could go down as the greatest coach ever winning a title at UT, well....

My fanatical Texas fans story (I just saw you guys roll your eyes. Assholes. Anyhoo):

I was in Austin the summer after UT won it all. We were bar hopping and stumbled into one that was playing the title game.

Here we are, 7 months removed from that game, and about 100 Horn fans are in there all glued to the TVs, watching it like its live. Reacting to every play, cheering shit like "c'mon defense" and standing on their barstools doing that "Texas Fight" chant after every score, high-fiving, doing shots, etc.

It was at that moment It hit me: either I traveled through time, or Texas fans are batshit crazy. The bartender said they have played that game every Saturday since they won, and a lot of the same guys come every weekend to watch it again.

*I love re-watching memorable games, but never like these weirdos did.

Haha. I have that DVD set with like 5 classic games. '93 FSU gets the most play, followed by the Snow Bowl.

I CAN picture that. However, the image sends me to the liquor cabinet, faith shaken ...

I think I have some Dixie Beer and Rebel Yell.

Then I settle down for a long winter's nap.

Being reported that Saban has signed an extension with Bama. That should put an end to the Texas talk if true.

So, some Texas fans I know are saying that Texas is offering a large payday to Saban in part to offset huge losses on some development plays.

The story goes that Saban was a business partner to Tommy Spinosa. Over the last few years, there have been multiple bankruptcy fillings by Spinosa. One of those filings, in 2011, named Saban directly in the article. Spinosas Houston complex bankruptcy

Since that time, Spinosa has also filed a very large bankruptcy in Louisiana, reportedly in the $200M range. It has been reported that both Nick and his wife had some sort of interest in that development as well, but the only public info that can be found is $750K land parcel registered to Ms. Saban. The rumor is they are in for more than that. Either way, it looks like the Texas boards are thinking Saban needs the money. May or may not be true, but I thought I would pass it along.

If money did become an issue, a Texas offer is also worth more vis a vis. No personal income tax in Texas.

Versus 5% in Alabama. That's like $300,000 a year.

Imagine saving $300,000 a year just in TAXES when you take a new job.

The $10M makes sense. I heard on the radio a few weeks back that Saban had lost a lot of money on some bad investments. This would be a way to recoup that money pretty quickly. As far as Saban saying he is too old to go any place else, I don't buy it. We're the same age and if I were offered a salary about 1 1/2 -2 1/2 times more than what I currently make, I'd be leaving. If he feels he's that old and tired, why is he still coaching? The man is a brilliant coach, but he's also a liar.

Thanks for digging out the details. I'm too lazy to be an investigative reporter. lol

I met a big Bama fan this weekend. We only talked for a couple of minutes, but when I asked him how he felt about Saban going to Texas, his eyes glazed over and he just shook his head "no", didn't say a single word. I then mentioned that there seems to be a lot of sources reporting this for it to just be a rumor. He again shook his head "no" and walked away. Not a single word, grunt, hmmm or anything. It was funny and Bama fans are not happy about this story.
