I guess I'm on the side where we weren't 'unlucky' against Oklahoma, we were simply beat.

They dialed up the blitz that forced the turnover. They made the hit, catch, ran it in.

They were in the right coverage on the following 'drive' and made the play. Then, their offense capitalized with a TD of their own.

They had a defense that can force turnovers, we do not.

They had 450 yards of offense, we had 324.

There's a great memento. Some day they can show their grandkids how they worked hard and got a video game.

Sorry, I'm not a fan of video games.

Hopefully they aren't playing too much ps4 and can focus on the task at hand.

Can someone help me reconcile that playing in the Pinstripe Bowl is a good thing for our program?

I agree with your thinking. We are playing a terrible team and if we don't win big it was not good for the program IMO.

I am glad to see the players get rewarded and it think it is better then not going to a bowl game because that means we did have an ok record.

But I under stand a lot of others opinions.

If we win will we get rings or watches or something made to commemorate the win. I know all bowl games give out some kind of tech swag to all the players nowadays

not sure how you can say that. How many people here, without googling, can remember the Hawaii, Sun, or Champs score? I watched all three and frankly all i care about is 2-1. Winning big, does nothing for us, you dont get brownie points. Convincingly doesnt have to be BIG. Frankly if we roll by 2 TDs but we just dominate the tempo and every aspect, then what difference does it make if its by 14 or 41? Going into Elam's, Luatua, or even Sony Michel's house for that matter, with a pitch of saying we won the pinstripe by 40 -- come to ND -- isnt going to change a recruits perspective. Saying we won by 7 would have the same effect. Losing? -- completely different story.

its beneficial to get a W, its beneficial to get the practice, its beneficial to have the exposure, and ultimately its more beneficial to claim your 9-4 with a bunch of talent coming back vs 8-5 and having to brush off a loss for 9 months

We should have smacked Purdue, Navy, and Pitt as well. Just saying..... And we were no where near "a couple" plays of going undefeated. Be realistic people.

Now realistically we should smack RU around and win by 28. That said we have played up to, and down to our competition all year long. We did pretty well in 6 games. The others, meh....

We need to come ready and hammer these guys. This match up and geo region does matter for the Irish when it comes to recruiting. I hope Tommy goes out on fire.

Purdue was probably their worst game of the year. Not having Nix against Navy killed them, as they weren't able to control the LOS like they wanted. Pitt was a flat out robbery. I don't like blaming the refs for a loss, but it was made apparently clear who they were favoring. Unarguably the worst officiated game I've ever seen. Those refs should've been immediately fired. All in all, ND has been inconsistent, but that's what happens when you have that many injuries. Hell, ND had more injuries than Florida, but they finished with a much better record, so I'd say, due to the circumstances, they had a pretty decent year. Beating the B1G champs, a 9-4 USC team, Pac-12 South Champs and playing pretty close against the Pac 12 champs with all those injuries is pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

We've won 3 games by more than 1 score this season. We let the worst AQ conference team stick around. We couldn't beat pathetic Temple by 3 scores. I'll believe we can blow out Rutgers when I see it.

I know right!?!?! Except... what's that... oh yeah, we beat Temple 28-6...............

It's probably because the game's so far away. You'll get more excited in a couple weeks.

I just don't get this mentality. This team finished the regular season 8-4 against a lot of odds coming INTO the season, not even including the key injuries. If someone had laid out the details of the season from Golson's suspension up until now, I would likely have guessed 6-6 at best. To be sitting at 8-4 with an invitation to one of the bigger non-BCS bowls, I would have signed up in a heart beart. A little perspective, people.

I am actually pretty excited about this game. A decent opponent that is from a state we try to recruit heavily. On top of that it is in New York so that may help continue our nice pipeline there as of late. I wonder if this will help us a little but with Holley? I am not really sure where we stand with him anymore at all? Obviously it is a little disappointing considering how amazing last season was but, we are a much better team under this regime and we are moving in the right direction!

Any TV ratings will be because of Notre Dame. I've never in my lifetime heard someone say...."Oh I wanna watch the Rutgers game"

I think they usually play on ESPN8

I for one am looking forward to watching this game for one reason....IT'S FREAKING NOTRE DAME PLAYING!! I don't care who they play, I just want to watch the Irish play and I'm hoping for and 08 Hawaii Bowl or 10 Sun Bowl like dominating performance where I can just watch the Irish glide to victory in a stress free, drunkenly happy way!
