I truly do value the commitment he's making to his school (and family).

I just hope that this doesn't cause any regrets down the road. I want this kid to exceed and be a high round draft pick. Hopefully his lack of QB play and TV exposure will not hurt him in the long run.

Oh logically it does not make any sense, but choosing a university is not just about logic. Maybe he thinks he is better and does not need to go to a high major school to be better. Maybe he wants to follow in Greenberry's footsteps. Who knows, but he can make his choice.

But Houston passes a bijillion times a game...

At ISU? Losing is part of the culture.
Before Chizik, McCarney was there for 12 years winning under 40% of his games. His predecessor Walden was there for 8 years while winning only 33% of his games.

Why would they change their Second Best Head Coach in almost 100 years?

Yes, they have a history of losing, but they ran out Dan McCartney who finally beat Iowa and started going to bowl games, because it became stale. Three years ago, they enjoyed the "so proud" speech after beating Nebraska. Two years ago, they enjoyed beating Ok St. Last year they tolerated getting beat by a Tulsa team in a bowl game who they beat earlier in the year. This year they're getting restless, but understand the situation. Another 1 win year next year, and the fans will want change.

Wiltfong thinks its a tight race for Lazard. Thinks it will be difficult for him to decommitt from Iowa State.

I would imagine they are telling him they will go after a top notch OC who will throw the ball. Make him the focal point of their offense.

Told Jake Brown at II that the OC getting fired at ISI has no affect on his decision. Solid to ISU and the only thing that would change that is Rhoads getting fired. He did get a visit from Elliot and another ND coach.

This kid seems like he's going to ISU no matter who the coach is. He knows they're a total shit team and program with a shit coach and he still wants to go there. Good for him for sticking to his guns.

From the sounds of it there is an unbelievable amount of pressure on this kid to go to ISU and I can understand following through on that. Some people find enjoy out of making others happy, that may be him. I just hope this was the last "hey we want you at ND where do things stand" and we can move on.

So, is Lazard a complete lost cause for ND? I know some ND coaches were out to see hime a week or two ago, is BK planning on trying to visit? I understand that he seems really solid to ISU, but recruiting is recruiting...

Time to move on I think. Rhodes isn't going anywhere, and I can't see Lazard leaving if Rhodes stays. Firing the OC probably only helped given the way they had no passing game to really speak of.

firing an OC and bringing in a new guy is a good sell for recruits because you can feed them the "it will be new to everybody so starting spots will be up for grabs" line

This. Lazard is under tremendous family and local pressure to go to ISU, he won't flip unless Rhoads gets fired, and Rhoads won't get fired unless something crazy happens like a DUI or a hazing scandal or some other totally unexpected misconduct or misfortune.

The staff will stay in touch just in case something does change, but I don't think anyone expects him to flip at this point.
