Bosco runs a no huddle spread offense so he will be fine...even though college and high school are different

My roommate at ND was a Bosco grad and is very active in the Alumni Association there, they are stacked, and those kids are prepared for Notre Dame academics, we need to start pulling a few. Mama would be a great start. Then Rosen.

Redbar, your buddy either sold you a bill of goods or your conversation happened a couple of years ago. Because this current St. John Bosco ain't your grandma's Bosco, that's for sure.

They play in one of the toughest leagues in CA, if not the state, and the admin got tired of getting their butts beat in (in all sports), plus their enrollment numbers were getting low. So they fired their football coach and gave the new coach the go ahead to start recruiting. Let me make that more clear...they HAD to go ahead and recruit (Mama did not start out there).

The next year, after one of the best years in the school's history, they fired their head basketball coach. He wouldn't recruit, and that's what they demanded. So they hired one of the most corrupt coaches out there, and he quickly brought in 13 (!!!!) transfers (actually, the number might have been 9, I forget.) and they have had the best 2 years in their history as well. Forget the fact that he can't coach and his star player (committed to UTEP and changed his mind a la EV and got into UCLA - you can't make this stuff up!) tried to throw a chair at him after a game in the locker room (former player/student of mine was on the team)...he was winning and bringing in incredible talent, so that's all that mattered to the admin.

So as it pertains to your buddy's assertion about academics, well, they've gone towards the SEC model of academics as opposed to the normal Catholic school approach (Gardena Serra, home of Marquis Lee, Robert Woods and George Farmer took this route before Bosco did to similar results). I have several former students still at the school, and one who transferred out (and went to the local public school for his final school because the school had changed so much) who can attest to it. And the best man in my wedding is the head basketball coach at a school in the area and knows everyone at the school, so I'm not talking out of my arse (for once LOL).

Wait, is your friend Tommy T??? (j/k Tommy)

Sounds like my son's high school basketball coach including the chair throwing in the locker room. The only problem was my son's high school basketball coach couldn't coach either.

Per BGI They believe Mama would be a grand slam for ND if he were to choose ND. Also mentioned in Luatua thread is that Damien and Tyler's mom's are close friends which could be important down the line.

With the Casher commit to Bama today, that all but eliminates them from getting Mama. I don't think they had much of a chance anyway but it is one less team in the puzzle now for the Irish to worry about. Still think he is going to USC but you just never know.

It's going to be a tough pull to get him away from his family but if ND is going to have any chance at all they need to get the other California Polynesian prospects, Luatua and Juju Smith.

The Irish have a great shot at both JuJu and Lautua. I would expect Lautua to commit to the Irish shortly after his visit to T Town in a couple of weeks.

Did his family visit with him? If not, what are the chances they get them back out to SB for the awards banquet?

Somebody call Manti and tell him to get in touch with Mama. Use that Polynesian connection.

Would imagine a lot depends on who USC hires, yes? Where else is Mama seriously considering?

USC, Bama, ND, Wisconsin, and BYU I believe is where he is looking. And the USC hire would probably impact his choice I would think.

“It’s cool seeing Coach Orgeron in his new position,” Mama said. “He was the first coach I got to know to know from the USC staff. Building a relationship with him has been great -- I could even call it tight-knit at this point. During a practice he brought me in to defensive huddle. He told me he didn’t like offensive linemen, so that was funny. He’s been awesome.”

Mama got a close look at the Trojans in a road environment while on his visit to South Bend, Ind., and said results are important but not the biggest factor.

“That whole perspective has changed since the recruiting process started,” Mama said. “I don’t really have favorites anymore. But if you would have asked me when I first started this recruiting process, I would have said, ‘SC offered so, yeah, I’m going there.’ Getting these offers has changed my whole perception on things, though.”

Luatua and Smith committing would help a lot with him. He had a much better time than he expected to on his official

It will be SC two of his teammates are already committed with a potential third one....has a big family that is always at his games so he will stay close to home. Went to his game a couple weeks and he had a Bama t shirt on after the game. To say he is huge is an understatement.
