Shocked. I had hoped for this but didn't see it coming right now. I am thrilled though, and offer Cole my congratulations, welcome to the Mob, that group is shaping up to be quite sick.

great news. I was just going through the 247 list of DB's and who we got a shot at.

S (1):priest Willis,Von Bell, Max Redifield (hopefully land one of)

CB (3) Kinlaw,Butler, and Luke Cole!

Your April prediction / wish list is looking solid. Reps.

Honestly, this is one of the more surprising verbals since I have been following recruiting, which started in 2007.

Was James the one that we didn't even have a thread for when he committed? I think so, and the reaction was pretty awesome.

First off, what a great get to near rounding out this class.

Second what does this teach us? I know I've said this before, but IMO it teaches us that even though we are plugged into virtually every social media outlet and "source" nowadays, we still don't know 100% what may be going on. We can speculate all we want on the coaches' thinking and strategies, but we really don't know. A fairly unexpected commitment like this just goes to prove this. Sometimes not knowing every minute detail and getting a very pleasant surprise like Mr Luke is fun!

Cornerback has been the position of priority for Notre Dame in the 2013 recruiting class for some time and on Thursday the Irish picked up a major priority for them at the position as Arizona cornerback Cole Luke confirms with Irish Sports Daily that he has committed to Notre Dame.

Luke gives the Irish 22 verbal commitments in the Class of 2012 and three cornerbacks, joining Devin Butler and Rashad Kinlaw.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Luke plays at Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz., for former Irish quarterback Steve Belles. In the end, Luke chose the Irish over offers from Texas and Oklahoma.

Luke took an official visit to South Bend in September and many speculated that the Irish still trailed other programs, but Belles saw things differently.

“Like I told him, if you’re basing it on academics and athletics, then you’ve already made your choice,” Belles told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “You can’t say you’re weighing academics – I hate to say it – if you’re talking about either of those two schools and trying to put them up against Notre Dame. There’s no comparison.

“In the end, I think Cole’s going to make the right choice.”

As far as the Irish are concerned, in the end, he did.

Steve Belles is the man.

"You've already made your choice... there's no comparison." Truer words have never been spoken.

So according to the above article, Cole Luke is the the third CB taken in this class. Does that mean we're pretty much done at this position? I understand that the secondary is a position of need with depth issues but are we really going to take more than 3 this year? Just wondering as I think of the implications of us ending my with Redfield and/or Alexander.

For sure. Especially since his announcement came out minutes after Tunnel Vision predicted him to Texas and ND as a distant 2nd. Crazy.

Rivals video was not the most convincing I've seen

Must have been VHS or Beta
J/K... TT if true, shocked that BK and team pull the trigger with so much talent still on the board. Now you've got me searching on more VHS.

No one's pulling the trigger on anything. Cole called them and said he was committing to ND. No doubt they were happy about it.

In watching the video, it just didn't seem like he had the buy in that the rest of the commits had.

Maybe I'm overlooking the situation, but I would take him in a heartbeat if he was genuine. Just hard to read from the rivals video.

Happy to have him regardless.

He just happened to visit twice with lukewarm reactions each time.

PS - good to be back

I can see why people aren't thrilled with his demeanor but I like it. Seems to be all business to me. Stayed true to his word about taking visits and making a decision afterwards. Winning helped more than he admitted IMO but I love that Notre Dame is regaling in recruits that want to win and see the big picture with life after football. Kind of riminds me of interviews with Bennett Jackson. Actions speak louder than words.

I agree he didn't seem as fired up about it as some of our other commits, but IMO that's just his personality, judging by his interviews in the past. He was clearly very good at not tipping his hand considering pretty much everyone thought he was Texas-bound, so I'm not too worried about it. That said, you guys would probably have a better feel for things because I'm pretty new to recruiting.
