Sorry to bump this thread, but did I miss anything with him? I know he had that ankle sprain, but I thought it was only a couple of weeks to heal. I assume Kelly is purposely keeping him off the field this year, but he already redshirted last year I believe, does that mean he could qualify for a medical redshirt?

No, no chance of a medical redshirt because he was not injured when he sat out last year. You have to have lost two years to injury, so he can't get a sixth year by sitting out this year unless both a) he is not playing this year because he is injured, and b) he loses ANOTHER year to INJURY. As far as I know, he is not currently hurt. I think he just hasn't cracked the rotation, unless I missed something. Someone please let me know if I have.

According to Intel, he broke his foot last week and he's out for the year.

Sounds like he finally got healthy but then this happened.

Man, that sucks. He's got a lot of talent ahead of him, but seems like a really good kid who you hope can make an impact at some point.

Why did it take so long to hear about this? Good luck. Hope to see you on the field next year.

He broke it last Wednesday before the Navy game. I guess he already had a stress fracture before he broke it but it shows you the grit that Mahone has. All is on track for a good recovery.

Lot of talent in front of him, but a lot of talent in him, just needs to be healthy for a stretch, he was impressing the coaches before the sprain.

So he just pulled a Tommy/Carlo combination....this is sad. Seems like the kid has had terrible luck with injuries and now some bad decisions.

Its not Mahone. I have no info, but I know Mahone, and he's a great guy. I think the chances he's invovled with anything bad off the field are incredibly low.

Really. That's shocking. He's a great guy.

Just think it's important to remind posters that this was a good kid who made a few really big mistakes due to alcohol.

I pray for the best for Will and hope he figures things out.

Hoping this one works out. So what if he went to a bar. Is he of age? I think so but not sure. Once you step in, you are immediately at risk. If you think you can tell college kids to avoid this, you're wrong. You will never get a player to play for you if they can't have fun. I hope for him that he was part of an altercation that was not started because of him. Sometimes it is hard to step away in a bar situation, whether you believe so or not. Really really hope that he was caught up and can be taught a valuable lesson without losing his season.

Wish you luck, Mahone! Hope the other guy looks worse than you!

I agree that by all accounts he is a really good kid. Stuff like this usually loses a lot of the initial charges as they book them with anything they can think of. Hopefully they allow him a chance to make it right, get some counseling, continue his education, and definitely a hefty suspension (4 games?).

Yeah. To be honest I'm pretty shocked. It's not a good situation.

A little general background info on ND and discipline. I am not speaking specifically about Mahone's situation:

Notre Dame has revamped its disciplinary branch, formerly known as the Office of Residence Life (and Housing). Beginning with last school year, they split the two departments, with the disciplinary branch renamed the Office of Community Standards. Under their new policies, students are — and this is generally speaking — given more leeway if it is their first offense. Now, that pertained to alcohol-related offenses. I'm not sure about Mahone's list of alleged offenses. I also do not know if this will be Mahone's first run-in with the Office of Community Standards.

Comparing it to Rees, Calabrese, Floyd, etc., is difficult because it is a new department with new rules.

Pretty disappointed that guys keep making dumb ass mistakes. It can't be that hard to not get kicked off of the team.

Disclaimer: don't know if he was kicked off or not but I thought that's why the rumor started in the first place.

So was he kicked off the team? Or is it awaiting a hearing from the Reslife Nazis?
