A little general background info on ND and discipline. I am not speaking specifically about Mahone's situation:
Notre Dame has revamped its disciplinary branch, formerly known as the Office of Residence Life (and Housing). Beginning with last school year, they split the two departments, with the disciplinary branch renamed the Office of Community Standards. Under their new policies, students are — and this is generally speaking — given more leeway if it is their first offense. Now, that pertained to alcohol-related offenses. I'm not sure about Mahone's list of alleged offenses. I also do not know if this will be Mahone's first run-in with the Office of Community Standards.
Comparing it to Rees, Calabrese, Floyd, etc., is difficult because it is a new department with new rules.
