My sister is a graduate of the AFA, so I have been there many times. Pike's Peak and Red Rock are two things I would check out if you have the time.

For people that have never been to CO Springs, I always tell them this: Leave yourself plenty of time to get places. The town is extremely spread out. Sometimes the mountains can deceive you into thinking that you are traveling a short distance, but it is so spread out that it can take forever to drive around.

AFA isn't Annapolis or West Point, but it is worth a walkaround if you have the time. Try and park by the arena for this, as it is close to the campus. The chapel is a pretty cool thing to see, especially when it is empty.

I expect us to have close to 250 yds rushing. They are giving up 221 a game.

I take the under. But we still win.


We are allergic to running the ball. We are 96th in the nation in rushing and have only had ONE 100yd rusher (only over 80 yds twice) this year and most of that came on ONE run.


If it happened...I would be suprised. I know it's Air Force, but those service academies control clock like no one else, so I see some long drives outta them.

Aaron Taylor will be paying special attention to his tie Saturday.

Taylor, an All-American offensive tackle at Notre Dame in the early 90s, will be on the call for the Irish-Air Force game on CBS Sports Network. It will be his first time working as an analyst for a game involving his old school.

So Taylor is acutely aware of not wanting to play any favorites.

“I know I have to be more careful,” Taylor said. “I remember once doing a San Diego State game. I happened to wear a tie with red in it. Well, I heard about it on Twitter and Facebook, and this was just from doing the open to the game.

“No question, the level of scrutiny will be up Saturday. I’ll be very careful with my tie. Definitely, no blue and gold.”

Taylor hardly is the first former player to work as an analyst for his former team. He knows the drill.

“I’m not going to be crying on the air if my alma mater is losing,” Taylor said.”I know I’ll be walking a fine line.”

However, make no mistake, Saturday’s assignment is special for Taylor. He said it will be “coming full circle” for him.

“There was a time when Notre Dame might as well have been England to me,” said Taylor, who grew up in the San Francisco area. “I had no idea where South Bend was when the recruiting letters started to come in. Notre Dame is on my Mt. Rushmore of the choices I’ve made in my life along with my wife and kids. It was paramount to what I’ve become.”

Taylor experienced the last truly sustained period of excellence at Notre Dame. From 1990-93, his teams went 41-8-1 under Lou Holtz.

Taylor believes Brian Kelly has a chance to replicate what Holtz did.

“They both have the vision and a specific way to execute that vision,” Taylor said. “Holtz was a little more hands-on. Kelly tried that in the beginning, but he got back to letting his coaches do their thing.

“Holtz was very methodical. Every week we had a game plan. We knew as players if we executed the plan, we’d win the game. Kelly strikes me the same way. You don’t enjoy the kind of success he’s had without having a plan.”

Air Force QB Karson Roberts returns, will start against Notre Dame - The Denver Post

AIR FORCE ACADEMY — _ Sophomore Air Force quarterback Karson Roberts has been cleared to return to the practice field. Coach Troy Calhoun has Roberts listed as the starter for Saturday's 3 p.m. game against Notre Dame.

Roberts had not practiced since sustaining a head injury Oct. 10 against San Diego State. Freshman Nate Romine finished the game against the Aztecs and was the quarterback on the first unit in last week's bye week practice.Romine is listed second on the depth chart.

Roberts has completed 14 of 30 pass attempts for 207 yards and three touchdowns. He also has 206 yards rushing and two touchdowns rushing.

For the first time since the season opener, Air Force's choice at quarterback will be dictated by merit rather than circumstance.

Karson Roberts returned to practice Monday, so coach Troy Calhoun and his staff must choose between the sophomore and freshman Nate Romine - who appeared in relief last week and nearly led the Falcons to a victory over San Diego State.

"We'll see who practices best the next two days, just because Karson did not practice last week," said Calhoun, whose squad hosts Notre Dame on Saturday.

Roberts had been sidelined with a concussion since the first quarter of the game Oct. 10 against the Aztecs.

His departure marked the latest in a string of bad fortune at the spot for the Falcons, starting with the loss of Kale Pearson to a knee injury in the season's first half and the ineligibility of backup Jaleel Awini late in September.

This will be the first time that the Falcons will enter a game with a backup who has seen game action other than mop-up time.

Air Force also expects a fully healthy running back Jon Lee, who saw little action against San Diego State after his elbow swelled up following the previous game. Linebacker Spencer Proctor has also been cleared after a concussion.

"We'll see how everybody is after tomorrow," Calhoun said. "We're going to run into some people and we need to see how we react to it."

Receiver Ty MacArthur will not play yet again for Air Force. Calhoun wouldn't say MacArthur is out for the season, but he hasn't practiced since a concussion at Boise State on Sept. 13.

The off week has clearly helped the Falcons recover from some ills, while Notre Dame is coming off a nail-biting 14-10 victory at USC. Coach Brian Kelly said Sunday that he believed quarterback Tommy Rees would be ready to go after spraining his neck in the game.

Purely from the perspective of healthy bodies, the situation seems to favor the Falcons.

"I think this is probably the best circumstances that we can have at this point," Lee said.

Bowl game? Yes, it's still possible if Air Force can beat Notre Dame

The matchup against Notre Dame is big for Air Force for a multitude of reasons, but one in particular has the attention of the Falcons players.

"I'm still hoping to get a bowl game," sophomore strong safety Dexter Walker said. "It's all or nothing these next five weeks."

As crazy as it sounds for a team that has lost six in a row and it being outscored by an average of 42-23 by major college opponents, Air Force (1-6) hasn't been eliminated from the bowl picture.

I hate these games. Granted I know we need them but if we win who did we beat? If we lose then it's a humiliating loss thrown in our faces for years to come. I just wanna stay healthy and win but I could see this getting to close for comfort. Always nervous before a game but especially these because we have more to lose than to gain.

I think it will more likely be Shembo-Tuitt/Day-Schwenke-Williams... with Day having an ankle injury I expect him to be used on limited reps inside and not play outside on the 4 man front at all. Might not play Tuitt much either but I think they might need him because of a lack of depth.

Linebackers will be trickiest. Do they have someone capable of playing the "star" like Slaughter? I expect you'll see Jaylon... then one of the ILB types, maybe even Schmidt... and then either Okwara or a safety or someone at the other OLB.

I would like to see Smith play the Slaughter role. He's definitely the most athletic defender we have so it would make sense
