Drue is a potential fit at ilb, a position of great need. He has interest in nd, which a lot of ilb prospects don't. He is a great student, and lives in Indiana. I don't know how much more there is to it

But he doesn't have a 4th star, so he's not worth the staff's time. Amirite?

Maybe the staff does not think he is a 3* quality. The staff not only offered Justin Brent when he was a 3* from IN, but accepted his commitment when he was still a 3* from IN. Sadly, just because you see a 3* next to his name, maybe the staff sees him as a 4* player that fits the type of player they want. The staff's opinion is what matters, not ours.

Doesn't Drue also have a younger brother who is quite the football player?

I'm putting everyone in time-out. No posts in this thread for 24 hours unless he commits before then.

Carroll's Tranquill in meet-and-greet | The Journal Gazette

Carroll linebacker Drue Tranquill accomplished his final goal of gathering information about Notre Dame.

The Purdue commitment, who also has an offer to play for the Irish, attended Notre Dame’s 14-10 home win over USC on Saturday night with the mission to build relationships with other recruits and current players.

Tranquill said he talked a lot with quarterback DeShone Kizer, who is committed to Notre Dame, Irish running back Cam McDaniel and linebacker Jaylon Smith – a Bishop Luers graduate who also trained with Tranquill at AWP Sports – and Allen Lazard, an Iowa State commitment who also is exploring an offer from Notre Dame.

“The biggest question was would I like the commits there?” Tranquill said. “I got to go down to Purdue and get to know the eight guys that are committed there (when he attended the Boilermakers’ home game against Notre Dame on Sept. 14). My biggest question going down this time was what are the guys like that are committed here? … It was overall a very good trip.”

Two of the most important connections Tranquill made Saturday night was with McDaniel, who is a Christian like the three-star Carroll prospect, and Lazard, whose recruiting process is similar to Tranquill’s.

McDaniel, whose father is a pastor, told Tranquill about how the team meets on Thursdays to talk about their Christian faith and the 30-minute Catholic Masses the team attends the Friday’s before games.“He walked me through that and just basically life at Notre Dame,” Tranquill said. “That was really huge for me to hear from a junior, an upperclassman. That was just a really cool experience to hear that. He basically talked about how it is not shoved down your throat or anything. Individuality is fine there.”

Tranquill said Allen shared what his recruiting has been like as a player already committed to another university.

“Iowa State is his dad’s alma mater,” Tranquill said. “He has ties there, and he feels he can be the hometown hero there. It’s 45 minutes from his house. He loves the coaching staff there. It is kind of similar to me with Purdue. … He has opened things up like I have to kind of look at Notre Dame because of the great opportunity it presents.”

Tranquill said he will go to Purdue on Nov. 2 for the Boilers’ home game against Ohio State, and after that, a final decision could come soon.

“I’m starting to feel that questions are being answered, doors are being opened, doors are being closed,” Tranquill said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if a decision was to come out in the next two or three weeks.”

He keeps going back to Lazard as an example. I really wonder if Lazard's example pushes him to stick with the Boilermakers.

I've been saying it for a while, but I think Drue stays with Purdue. Just the interviews and whatnot that have been "pro-ND" could also be taken the opposite way. I'd like to be wrong, but I'm not seeing it.

Props to them both. They have handled it as well as one can. Tough spot to be in either way.

His wording to me feel like those doors are opening for ND because he knows Purdue can't offer him the same. He wants Purdue to match it which is his constant struggle but, in the back of his mind he knows the better opportunity is in South Bend.

I don't know about "tough". It's more like picking a country club that's in your neighborhood over the one down the street with a bigger pool. No matter what, you win.

Maybe Lazard told him he was fvcking crazy for not going to ND.

Lazard's situation is only similar to Drue's in that he is committed somewhere else.

Drue does not have a family from Purdue who currently works at Purdue and he doesn't live within 45 mintues.

My guess is his conversation with Lazard made him think, "why in the hell have I not committed to ND yet?"

Yes, I am a homer.

Yeah, that is a positive way to look at it. I was looking at the negative side of it.

I thought the point he was trying to make about Lazard is just that they are both committed to in-state schools where they feel like they can be stars, but they have to explore the tremendous opportunity to go to ND, a better football program and school, even if they may be mere supporting cast members there instead of stars.

If Drue is making his decision based on the idea that he'll be a "star" at Purdue, he's not making a very wise choice. Because it's close to home? Sure. Because he wants to be near his family and girlfriend? Ok. Because he wants to be an engineer? More power to him. But his odds of being a well-recognized football player go down drastically if he attends Purdue.

Purdue has had 4 star recruits before. They go 6-7 just like the rest of the team.

my gut is telling me that purdue is going to win this one out as well just due to the fact that he wants to and will honor his commitment he made to that staff

South Bend is about 20 miles closer to Fort Wayne than West Lafayette, so distance shouldn't be a factor. Can't argue the other points. lol

I'm batting about a zero when it comes to predicting recruits. Got McKenzie wrong as well as about half of the recruits last year so with that being said

Tranquill is all boilermakers
