My greatest depression about the difference between last year's defense and this year's is that even though Lou wars it out each play [and Kona, by the way], and Day also often takes up two blockers, yet Tuitt and Shembo can't get there.

...... my entire hopefulness for this season being another eleven-or-so win affair was that the DLine would make EVERYBODY on the schedule miserable. I think that even Lou is majorly frustrated by that, and until recently has tried to do too much to make up for his buddies' lack of production --- example: getting turned sideways too often as he tries to penetrate when he should better just stone the middle and push straight ahead.

Last year Shembo made a living off of playing against a single-slower guy he could get leverage on. Last night he clocked in. He is on the schedule more for the rest of the season.

Really all of you that are frustrated or critical of Tuitt should try modern hernia repair surgery. They use a bunch of small holes into your abdomen, (think stabbing wounds) to insert tools, optics and a piece of mesh. Then they unfold the mesh. Then they tack, (that is what they call them, tacks; think little barbed tacks) from behind, through the mesh, through the fascia, into the muscle. Then they retract the equipment.

I have previously been stabbed and suffered shrapnel wounds; the post surgical pain of this surgery was much worse. It was nearly unbearable for the first couple of days. For weeks you couldn't move right. Like four to six weeks. I had my surgery the day after the Fourth of July. This last week in the gym, I finally noticed things starting to "unkink" right. I have had major knee surgery that wasn't as big a drag on getting back in "shape." Because the area affected is core, and the affect lasts so long. But it is better than your guts slipping outside. There, I said it.

So please remember this in your criticisms of Stephon.

And as far as the whole defense, we are now getting to the part of our schedule where we will face more vertical teams. Watch how the defense seems to improve over night.

There was one play near the end of the game where it was clear Tuitt didn't even try to get involved in the play. The first thought in my head was "that looks like he is playing in the 2011 Pro Bowl" when the linemen just stood up and stood there. That said, Tuitt had a better game than he's had all season against ASU. That hit on the QB that caused the fumble was fantastic.

BK said in his presser today that Tuitt is still struggling physically. He is experiencing back tightness and its affecting his hip flexor. So there's still a hangover from surgery. Not sure why it took them so long to make this public since it has seemed pretty obvious. I would think that making this public sooner would have taken some pressure off of him and his lack of explosiveness. I think the added weight has something to do with it. He added that the bye week should help rest him.

Well, sometimes, it's a personal thing.

Not everyone wants the public to know where they're hurting. Especially in this scenario, because that brings more media attention and more questions and most players don't care or want that.

Maybe they didn't want other teams to know about it. Now that it is minimal, and Stephon can well protect himself, remember he has a two week conditioning reprieve, he will let the world know. This could be for three reasons. He doesn't pitch bitches; ie. whine much. He wants all the pro scouts and everyone including future opponents to know he is good, so that they honor the linemen and don't go straight for the lb's with their game plans. And finally, third but most important of all, they are setting him up with a line of demarcation, and a new challenge from this point forward, "Okay, that was all for getting your health back, this is the money play, here! Game on!"

And the Lord said, "Tuitt, my son...help Our Lady win a BCS bowl next season." And Tuitt responded, "how about a national title?"

Man you have to respect these young men, their families and the job the staff has done in conveying the importance of finishing their college careers before moving on to the next phase of their football career. Respect.

So next year we are looking at....

Tuitt-Day-Rochell

Jarron Jones
Tony Springmann?
Chase Hounshell?
Jacob Matuska
Ishaq Williams (Cat)
Romeo Okwara (Cat)
4+ freshman DL/ CAT

Not awful. That front 3 should be pretty damn good.

Let's give the staff a lot of credit. Everyone complains about losing EV, Lynch, Kiel, etc but the amount of players the staff has convinced to pass up on a high draft spot to come back is astronomical.
