I've seen a lot of bizarre "conclusion jumping" on this site... This has got to be one of the most baffling to me.

Am I missing part of the verse or something?

No, I'm sort of half joking. My point was that the scripture seems to encourage one to not rely on human understanding (i.e., not to rely on pure logic, which in this case, you would think that logic seems to favor ND) but trust the Lord (do what your heart tells you). I'm just blowing smoke and speculating. I do note that he (Drue) seems to think it means something.

I was just kidding, buddy. Congrats on the division title. Just pulling your leg.

No harm at all, I added the gif on my phone the other day so wasn't actually aware of the size/poor quality of it.

In regards to gomes hitting the old man obviously unfortunate and the 20 year college kid that I am thought was an awesome gesture, I can see how others were up in arms about it. I would of loved to took a beer of the dome booted at me from gomes as we clinched (again, there's that asinine 20yr old) would of been a cool story to tell. Again unfortunate the guy got hurt, but though I haven't been able to find any stories on the matter, I will be very disappointed if the organization and even gomes specifically fail to reach out to the man to do right by him.

Go sox.

I'm probably wrong. The scripture seems to discourage relying too heavily on human understanding. Human understanding would seem to lead you to ND as the better choice.

I thought it was more about simply putting his faith in God to help him in his choices...

But it is also dangerous to assume things about an individual's interpretation of scripture.

You are probably right. Whatever he decides, he seems like a good kid.

Carroll LB nears decision

Tranquill

FORT WAYNE – Drue Tranquill has plenty to think about after taking a pair of unofficial college visits the last two weekends.

The Carroll linebacker was at No. 22 Notre Dame’s 31-24 victory at Purdue on Sept. 14 and the Irish’s 17-14 home win over Michigan State on Saturday.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder said Sunday he remains committed to Purdue, a pledge he made July 23. But he does hold a scholarship offer from Notre Dame as well, which came 10 days after he made his commitment to the Boilermakers.

“Pieces are starting to come together and things are starting to fall into place a little bit,” Tranquill said. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see (a decision) come out in the upcoming weeks. … I’m not putting a timetable on it. It is kind of peace of mind thing, but I’m definitely starting to get things sorted out.”

Tranquill said he was able to meet with other players who have committed to Purdue and enjoyed the experience of being at Ross-Ade Stadium for the night game against Notre Dame.

What stuck out to him most was how much the fans care about the Boilermakers.

“There was a packed house and electric atmosphere,” said Tranquill, who could play outside linebacker or safety for the Boilers. “That was a great, reassuring factor in the process. The fans obviously still care. They see the upside of what coach (Darrell) Hazell and his staff can bring to the Purdue program.”

Tranquill said he met with Notre Dame safeties coach Bob Elliott before the Irish’s game against the Spartans.

Tranquill’s visit with Elliott was another sign that the Irish are flexible for where he could play for their defense. Notre Dame originally recruit Tranquill with the idea of turning him into a middle linebacker, but before the Purdue game, coach Brian Kelly told the Carroll senior that the staff would evaluate where he could best help the team whether that was at outside or inside linebacker or safety.

“They’re overall message (Saturday) was reassuring the fact that I was going to come in to play wherever I could best help the team early,” Tranquill said. “They are going to give the opportunity to play the position I want to play. Now if it turns out that that is not the position I should play, they are going to put me in the position where I can best help the team early.”

Tranquill said he was impressed by Elliot and also by how many Notre Dame freshmen were given the chance to play against Michigan State.

“You saw two big freshmen out there, (receiver) Corey Robinson and (former Bishop Luers star and linebacker) Jaylon Smith both making plays on opposite sides of the ball,” said Tranquill, who is friends with and trained with Smith at AWP Sports. “The biggest thing at Notre Dame is they are under such national scrutiny that if you are not getting the job done, they are looking for the next guy to come in. So the opportunity for freshmen to come in and have an opportunity to play early was just huge.”

Yep, he's said this publicly.

If this is true (And I don't doubt you at all), then it is clear to me that this isn't about early playing time, helping turn around a program or even academics. This is strictly about making a commitment and the difficulty in breaking it when you have integrity.

He'll be a Boilermaker.

Someone needs to remind him that Ross-Ade was about 60/40 Boiler/Irish that night and Boiler fans came because it was Notre Dame playing at Ross-Ade.

the donor seats were only ~20% filled. So while the fan base was there supporting the money wasnt.

i'm sure Purdue at 1-3 is weighing on him as well. No fans, 1-3, tough to pick for him. I think he ends up Irish.

If I had a nickel for every time a recruit decided against a school because they didnt have a strong donor foundation...

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I doubt Tranquill would be going on Power Hour if he's leaning toward the Boilermakers.

He said everything you'd want to hear from a recruit. Christian thinks it's a matter of when, not if.

Just seems so obvious that he wants to be at Notre Dame and the only thing holding him back is that he is a good kid with a good family and doesn't want to flip on the commitment he made. On one hand that's refreshing... on the other hand it's frustrating because if we offered earlier and/or you didn't have hack writers and fans giving him grief, he'd already be Irish.

Power Hour Interview

Positives
- Referred to 40 year decision several times
- In mentioning the importance of the degree, specifically mentioned the importance of the network
- Said that the fact that we have sold out every home game since the mid 70's stood out.
- Pertaining to the atmosphere, he said even though it was a defensive struggle, atmosphere was great and could only imagine what it would be like against Oklahoma or USC.

Negatives
- Spoke glowingly of the Purdue coaches and staff
- Used the term "we" when talking about Purdue
- Mentioned that Purdue is rated 17th in regards to the Engineering program

Yep, according to TV a factor has been Drue's family's concern about the public perception of and reaction to any decommitment or flip. Also, they really like the opportunity at Purdue. TV guys still think he will be Irish in the end though.

I certainly hope I'm wrong, but if the integrity thing and negative response to a flip is a concern, then........

It just explains why he's taking so long to make a final decision. I don't think any of the experts think that it will ultimately prevent him from flipping.

One nice thing about his dragging out the process is that everyone seems to have come around to the belief that he is a good prospect. If we had signed a 3-star kid with not a great offer sheet right after camp, there would have been constant doubting about his abilities.

i sitll think there are those out there doubting his abilities. However, they realize how important he is to our depth.
