I'm pretty sure he just visited them for their game against Syracuse. If not, I'm pretty sure PSU will be one of his officials.

He couldn't have visited for that game because it was at MetLife Stadium. He may have been at the game but it wasn't a visit

Per Wiltfong, not a lot of communication this week which is surprising. Said Holley could be focusing on other things right now. He still thinks we are in the picture but not the favorite.

Article about Holley in high school sports section of NY Daily news today. Kid he lives with instead of commuting from queens says he believes its Syracuse or Alabama. Maybe someone can link the story, I don't know how.

Yeah, it sounds like we are fading for him. Bummer.

One interesting note if you want to look on the bright side: right after saying that there hasn't been much contact with Holley this week, Wiltfong said that the ND staff is still evaluating prospects for a late offer and still in touch with some committed prospects. Could be an "exciting fall." Might we steal another Eddie V in this class (without the subsequent defection, please)?

Lincoln defensive tackle Thomas Holley shares recruiting process with fellow Railsplitter Isaiah Whitehead, one of top basketball players in NYC - NY Daily News

“He thinks I’m already signed, sealed and delivered,” Whitehead says, adding that he believes Holley will attend either Alabama or Syracuse. “But I really don’t know where I’m going. He gives me hints that one school called him and gave him love. It’s just a great friendship that we’ve had since we’ve been kids.”

Holley is not married to the idea of staying local. He was impressed with Erasmus Hall’s Curtis Samuel’s decision to attend Ohio State and make his mark outside of New York. Holley is friendly with Samuel and the two discussed their favorite schools at Nike’s The Opening in July. Holley called Ohio State “definitely a place with high interest (from) me.”

I wouldn't worry about the lack of communication this week. Holley is probably just focusing on his first game this weekend. He said he wanted to make a decision before the season so he could focus on his team. That didn't happen, but it doesn't mean he wants to spend his time on the phone with coaches when he knows the next step in the process is official visits.

We are in line for an official. We just need to make sure Mama Holley accompanies him.

Per Wiltfong Notre Dame will have a coach out to visit him during the second week of October.

Hopefully we can get an official scheduled.

-Contrary to popular belief we aren't really behind here from an effort standpoint. Coaches from the schools he is considering are seeing him over their bye weeks. Some schools just have bye weeks before us but like STL said we'll be in to see him over ours. Is now planning to take all 5 officials and a decision won't come until late in the process. Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers and Syracuse are the schools that he's considering.

If the Irish coaches are planning bye week visits, I would hope one stop will be Coppell, Texas. Solomon Thomas, like Sheldon Day, would contribute immediately to the Irish defense. Thomas Holley, like Jarron Jones, will struggle to see the field his freshman year. When it comes to high school football, Texas tough and Brooklyn tough are worlds apart. Besides, Stanford is one of the schools on Thomas' list. Academically ready to compete as well.

Dislike the assumptions. Every young man is his own individual. We are not talking statistics. Young Mr. Holley can be college-ready and Notre Dame smart just as much as the next guy. Our coaches will be the best judges of that.

That said, getting BOTH Holley and Thomas to Notre Dame is the preferred resultant.

Thomas has played a lot more football than Holley so it would be understandable if he has an advanced skill set. However, comparing Holley to Jones is way off, IMO. Holley is much more advanced physically than Jones at the same stage in their development. Also, over the summer scouts we're extremely encouraged by Holley's ability to get better with his technique from rep to rep.

I think both would see the field in their first year.

Does anyone remember how Jones did in camps or all star games? Because Holley dominated this summer even though he was/is super raw

Not sure Jones hit up too many camps but he was definitely underwhelming at the Army all star game. That was where you could first start to see his lack of agressiveness was a problem. That's why Holley is a completely different situation, IMO. Like you said he dominated multiple camp settings against very good and big lineman.

TJ had a few things to say about Holleys recruitment. Elston has been his primary recruiter which is something that was important to him (getting to know his position coach). BK, Diaco, and Alford are assisting as well. Since his June visit we've been in contact and handled the recruitment precisely how they requested during that visit. His HC coach has monitored that and approved accordingly.. They asked not to bombard them with calls which we obviously
haven't. Mom, uncle, and HC are his support group.
- sounds like we are doing much much better here than the public make it out to seem. In fact TJ even mentions that there are some recruiters that aren't following their requests and he infers that could be a negative.

Totally agree. If you're not going to respect him and his family in recruiting then what would make anybody believe he would be respected once he arrives on campus. The approach we take should always fall in line with what the family can handle and allow. Good for the coaches even if we end up not getting him because of it.

Especially as one's likely a nose and the other's more of a DE. Would be thrilled to get one, but land both and our defensive front would be in very good shape.

I hope so. It seems like the most Notre Dame thing ever to honor the request of a recruit to treat him like a human being, only to have some slime-slinging snake oil salesman totally ignore that request but win the commitment anyways. Would be nice to see "doing it the right way" rewarded and serve as a benefit and not a detriment.

TJ posted that Holley is looking into taking his official the weekend of BYU possibly with Jay Hayes. PSU and OSU probably do lead at this point but this recruitment has a long way to go until the end.
