Tom Loy now puts Nathan Starks to ND in his Crystal Ball.

What an idiot. I'd bet half my vBucks he made that prediction based on nothing more than Hood's decommitment.

Starks got expelled from school for dealing drugs. There's no way in hell he can get past ND admissions now. Full stop.

Shows you how well Loy knows the school he supposedly covers. Zero credibility.

Everyone who knows anything says Starks is a non-take.

I hope they're wrong.

Tom Loy is an idiot #1, #2 didn't Starks get kicked out of school & arrested for dealing pot?

I highly doubt ND would even take that kid. You guys are too classy an institution. He'll wind up playing for an SEC team or in Columbus.

This Hood situation does seem like a bit of a trend. ND has had some bad luck lately when it comes to 5* ish players de-committing or leaving the program. Lynch, Darby, Greenberry, Tee Shepard, Eddie V, and now Hood.

Your D was great last year, can't imagine how amazing it would have been with Lynch in the DL and talents like Darby & Shepard in the secondary.

Wow, I thought this kid was 100% solid. We all have ones that feel wishy washy, but I never felt this way. Recruiting sucks sometimes. And I though he was recruiting super hard for us. Huge hit.

Seems to be the M.O. for us. Does any other schools lose as many top recruits as us? Either Verbal Decommits or Transfers of high ranked kids. I know we all pay attention to ND, but I live in Pac 12 country and (outside USC violation punishment) I don't think anybody loses as much as us. Very, very concerning.

Lynch, Prestwood, Kiel, Vanderdoes, Neal (5* or very high 4) transfer
Darby, Greenberry, Hood, Tee, Anzalone, Mattingly, Decker, etc.

Thank God for Jaylon, Max, Bryant, Folston, Tuitt, Nix, DD, Big John, Ronnie, Elmer, Bivin, and the other Top End guys that stayed.

Still concerning and we can overlook at some of our issues of transfer and decommits.

Go Irish, just a downer day.

Bleh, I'm glad I stopped following/caring about recruiting so much.

Yeah me too, although it is unbelievable the recruiting drama at ND over the last few years. Not only do you need to worry about kids flip flopping before NSD, but you also have to now worry about them flip flopping after NSD (Vanderdoes) and making it through that first winter heading into their sophmore seasons (Lynch, Kiel, Neal, etc.) when the reality student life and home sickness sets in. Recruiting these kids is an absolute whirlwind on the program and a full time job even after they have committed. Emotionally investing yourself in it as a fan of the team is really just silly. Let the chips fall where they may and root for the players that play for the program and want to remain a part of the program.

On a side note, I think this particular decommitment has little impact on the future of this team. Atkinson and Carlisle will both be back next season and the future looks extremely bright with Bryant, Folston, and Mahone. We are not hurting at the RB position.

One thing that always arises with me when this stuff occurs is I can't tell who I find more annoying...

the cliff jumpers or ones who jump all over the cliff jumpers and insist losing players like this is kosher.

both tend to work my nerves at times like these...

So guys like you can jump.

Even is ND does land Starks... does anyone here actually make the case Hood=Starks??

Completely different players but I actually said in a PM to somebody months ago before we got Hood that'd I'd rather have Starks. Since then, Starks got expelled and Hood showed he's freaking fast AND can catch... so I've changed my mind completely.

The truth is a school like Oklahoma or USC or Alabama can take a kid like Starks and no one will bat an eye.... Stanford, ND, etc. I don't know how he gets by admissions. I just can't envision any scenario where that happens.

Nope not at all. Hood is a absolute beast at 6'0" 220lb already. Being able to run a legi 4.5 or even better at that size is insane. Also he has great hands.

Only Rgument that could be made is that Starks fits the spread better than Hood I guess.

Starks will go to O$U to be Urban's next "Percy Harvin."

Kind of have to agree with this. Loy really is kind of terrible at ND coverage. With his UNC coverage roots, I blame him for this. Why not?

Hood Decommits

Hood Decommits

Elijah Hood almost slipped through Notre Dame’s hands once, but now it seems like the 2014 North Carolina running back is gone for good.

Amid reports that he was either going to decommit from the Irish or already had, on Thursday afternoon, Hood tweeted, “For everyone wondering the answer is yes now im going to practice.”

He seemed to be responding to numerous inquiries into whether the reports of his decommitment or pending decommitment were true. A source close to the situation did confirm earlier in the day that Hood was on the verge of backing away from his pledge.

The 6-foot, 220-pounder from Charlotte Catholic High School offered his commitment to Notre Dame on April 28th. Many expected Hood to commit much sooner than he did. He maintained the Irish were his clear number one for months and that was cemented during a February visit to campus. But after a visit to the University of North Carolina, he said he wanted to stay closer to home and the Tar Heels surged to the front.

A return trip to South Bend in April, this time with his parents, put the Irish back in front and he committed shortly after. Hood was a vocal recruiter for Notre Dame on Twitter and at The Opening in July, but distance has apparently become an issue again, according to the source.

Hood’s decommitment leaves the Irish with 16 current verbals in the Class of 2014 and no running backs. The Irish didn’t seem to be pushing hard for any other running backs, but that’ll likely change soon.

Yep, exactly my feeling. At first, I felt that, if we were going to take one RB this cycle, it didn't make sense for Hood to be the guy because I didn't think he was really a good system fit. I now think that he is actually a GREAT system fit. He is fast and can catch, AND he runs like a truck. What a combo. No matter how you look at it, we are losing a unique talent who would be great for us (though hopefully not permanently).

I feel like there are guys like Starks in every class. A talent like Hood is harder to come by.

Ha. I have to agree. The how-bad-is-it conversation is always annoying.

That's almost on the same level as a Manti catfish if multiple recruiting services and news outlets are reporting it as the truth.
