The fact that he has a personal assistant is: (fill in the blank)

“@schadjoe: That broker (not connected to South Florida signing allegations) said he has declined to return 6 calls from NCAA”

Lol this guy won't talk to the NCAA but he'll talk to ESPN

I couldn't believe this when I first heard this on ESPN. I have a hard time believing he actually has a personal assistant. I bet one of his high school friends riding his coattails is just telling everyone that he is JM's assistant.

Would a coach actually allow one of his players to have an assistant!?

EDIT: "Assistant/Manager." I was half right, it's one of his bro's: This Is Johnny Manziel’s Manager – Uncle Nate

I think there is a ton of evidence that points to this being a violation. (The strongest being that the memorabilia is numbered 1-99 which is HIGHLY suggestive of being a paid signing.)

But I don't think that picture shows anything. Except maybe that the guy claiming Johnny did this was actually around him at some point.

As Denzel said in Training Day, "Its not what you know, its what you can prove."

Picture evidence be damned. It can be photoshopped!

This guy just needs some proper guidance. Fade away from the spotlight and find some positive growth.

I don't think he's going to find that with this guy as his "manager":

It's seeming more and more obvious to me that the easy out will be to simply in everything on "Uncle Nate"... a la Mr. Newton taking the fall for requesting a truck full of cash.

Uncle Nate falls on his sword; Manziel claims ignorance, dodges blame, plays out the season, and then goes pro.

OMG that's funny. I wish someone would teach me to embed funny pictures. I have a session scheduled with my daughter tonight to get me out of the 90's.

Look Cam Newton didn't take money, his dad did. J. Football didn't either, his assistant did. So in both situations the player didn't violate the rules. Just the direction I see this heading.

Aren't they different situations though? Cam couldn't have gone anywhere without his dad's signature, so his dad had some level of control.

The only way Manziel could justify Nate taking the money is an advance on his "assistant/manager" role, which I guess is somewhat plausible.

Regardless, I fall into the camp of there's too much smoke for there not to be fire, but it will also be very hard for the NCAA to prove.

I can just see him throwing his assistant under the bus claiming he knew nothing about it. Like Cam did. Not that I buy it.

Yeah, the moment they let Cam get away with that I thought it opened up a giant loophole. And if they let Manziel get away with this, then everyone will just have a parent/cousin/friend ask for money on their behalf and feign ignorance. We'd be seriously nearing Wild West territory in the NCAA (if we're not already there).

Just a thought, but based upon the relationship between Johnny and this Uncle Nate character, wouldn't one think that Uncle Nate has some serious dirt on Johnny (if violations did occur), so Johnny simply throwing Uncle Nate under the bus could come back to hurt him? Although the Manziel's are probably rich enough to just pay him off.

The Uncle Nate guy definitely seems like a big enough d-bag to turn on his friend in such a way.

Although then again, "throwing him under the bus" really only entails placing the blame on him. There wouldn't be any type of punishment, would there? So he probably wouldn't even really care.

There's a difference between plausible ignorance and specious ignorance.

Plausible Ignorance - Cam not knowing his dad took money when he signed with Auburn.

Specious Ignorance - Johnny signing hundreds of autographs in a hotel room out of the kindness of his heart and not knowing Uncle Nate took money for Johnny's charitable actions.

I'm not defending Cam. I find it hard to believe he didn't know his dad took money, but there is on some level plausibility to his ignorance. I have very little to zero confidence in the NCAA, but I think they'll see right through Johnny's claim of "ignorance" if he goes that route.

What kind of parent encourages any kind of association with someone like this Nate?

He'll throw for 800 yards and 10 TDs in their first two games this year. ESPN will do a Gameday special on him week 3 when they play bama and they'll discuss, in detail, all the "adversity" he overcame this offseason. If A&M wins, ESPN can continue the heisman campaign. If bama wins, ESPN can start comparing bama's defense to a NFL defense. Nobody gets suspended and everyone, including Manziel, makes money.

This is a good point. A really good point. Well... unless they can show a pattern of behavior where he was going around doing hundreds of autograph signings for free for other dealers... then maybe it becomes more "plausible" that Uncle Nate took money without him knowing and falls on his sword.

The fact that there has been no comment from Manziel's camp yet (and that they pulled him from available athletes at their media day today) is proof positive that they are trying to devise some sort of plan to shield him from liability and keep him eligible. If he simply did not take money to sign autographs, he would come out and say "this never happened and is a lie." He hasn't done that.

Help me LAX, isn't Manziel and family the ones that had a hard time not profiting from his name already? Haven't they been the ones pretty anxiously setting the standard to mine the $ out of the name Johnny Football?

I am surprised this picture came out so fast. Usually you don't see any sort of phsyical evidence in these "reports."

Hopefully the fact this has made its way to China and back thanks to twitter the NCAA can't drag its feet.

The same kind of parents who don't discipline their kids for stealing and doing drugs and getting suspended from school, but instead buy them iPhones and other things. People would rather be their friends instead of their parents. Hopefully we won't glorify them like we have other such parents.

Lax et al, agreed. Uncle Cracker, errrrrr, Uncle Nate, will fall on the sword a la Barry Bonds' BFF (Anderson, I believe) and get paid for it later. And JM walks. Nobody does cheating like the SEC.

I'm kinda glad Manziel won the Heisman now. If he didn't we wouldn't have the wonderfully entertaining off season, and it's not over yet. Well done, voters, well done.

How do you see the NCAA getting out of doing the right thing on this one, NDD2?

Not me. I thought Manti deserved it and was pissed when he didn't win, especially after I saw what kind of person Manziel was. It wasn't until the Cotton Bowl that I conceded Manziel was "special" and also deserved the Heisman, but I still think Manti should have received it based on the 2012 regular season.

Meh, Heisman is becoming more and more of a joke...especially when you consider now in the last 10 years we've already had 3 cases of the recipient getting caught accepting benefits and/or making themselves look stupid ala Manziel. No, this award has fallen and it's taking the winners along for the ride. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy than Manziel, I'm enjoying his exploits.

Theres also the stigma that Heisman winners don't go on to do good things at the NFL level. That remains to be seen, but people are already calling Ingram a bust, and theres a long list of Heisman winners in the last 10 years that don't pan out at the next level. I've heard nothing but good things from Manti in San Diego so far, so no thanks :)
