Overrated. Or rather, the services that have him ranked low are pretty accurate. He hasn't been all that impressive recently or at camps.

Interesting this post comes out the day he doesn't put us in his
top six. How Buckeye of you.

He's not overrated, he's a stud and would've been a huge piece to our front seven.

Called this one a long time ago, even before the 3-4/4-3 thing came about. Just something about him and the way that he talked about other schools to other teams' reporters and didn't talk up ND, well, those kids just don't come here, especially from the South.

LOL, I argued this when people wrote that he was ours to lose, and I argued this when someone wrote that we were clearly his leader a few weeks back. I was even told my evidence was weak (evidence being quotes directly from Williams LOL) and that I was just plain wrong...and told that on the board and in PM.

My point is...I used to be wrong all the time in recruiting when it came to these types of guys. But then Omar Hunter happened (yeah, I went there) and Justin Trattou happened (yup, went there too) and Chris Martin happened, and I finally started to figure this thing out. Still wrong a ton, but with guys like this, the writing is on the wall.

As Jay-Z said...on to the next one.
Hahahah yeah, you went there alright.

So, let me get this right...Williams visits Georgia Tech today, talks to a Georgia Tech reporter who asks him who he is looking at, he lists the six schools he has either recently visited or has plans to visit in the near future, and all of a sudden he has a top 6? GTFOH. I am not sure whose reporting is more irresponsible, Kelly Quinlan (Rivals GT reporter) or STL.

Live in Atlanta and not surprised at all that Williams would include GT in his final 6. Close to home, brother plays there and GT just brought back alum Ted Roof as DC running the 4-3. Roof is Atlanta born and bred and is very popular among Atlanta area HS coaches.

Scared of competition is not good. NOT saying its the case for Williams. But if you are scared bc of kids already committed in the class then thats a huge problem down the road.

Here's what Williams told Town, "I'm still visiting (ND) soon, and at this point I'm not releasing anything yet, if the schools are in it, they're in it."

This kid is an enigma to me. He either does or does not have a top 6 that we are not located inside of. He is going to official to us maybe. He doesn't like the 3-4. And we still have a chance. I just think he is WAY confused. Best thing for this kid would be to shut down contact for about a month and reevaluate what is important with his parents. Weed out the BS and garbage he thinks is important when a coach tells him it is, and make a life decision that is right for him. If its not us that's fine. Just think he is being pulled in too many different ways right now and cannot filter anything.

klinsmann.0_standard_709.0.gif

I've been rather negative about him and ND but even I didn't expect that

lolololol my only surprise is that it took him this long. He will be confronted. He will deny. But believe it, gents - *he gone.

Well said. I will also add that if his recruitment is already this confusing it's not going to get any better when coaches are throwing the kitchen sink at him on official visits.

You said this recently:
I don't see how people can suggest we don't lead or that we are slipping

When I said that I don't see ND as his leader at all, you went on and on about how wrong I was to refute your point and how my evidence was so weak (despite me telling you that one of ND's top recruitniks telling me he didn't think ND lead either). I wouldn't be patting myself on the back over this one.

I did say this though in our little debate:
We'll revisit this when Williams flip flops on who his leader is

Obviously he hasn't named a leader yet (again, you were sure that we lead for him, but her his words to an ND reporter, he hasn't released one yet), but it goes to my point in that the kid loves every school he visits and will change leaders depending on which way the wind blows (as teenagers are apt to do).

Points remain...he's not ND's to lose as some suggested, ND is not clearly his leader, and he will flip-flop many more times.

And as I said two weeks ago, who really cares this early? With a kid like this, it's gonna be a lonnnng ride.

Two points I've wanted to make for awhile but I know they won't be popular and will rub a lot of people the wrong way... but eff it:
1. I don't know if I've ever seen a more overrated prospect by the Irish fan base than Andrew Williams. And I don't really get why. The early interest? Rochelle connection? Not talking specifically about this board either, I see it on every single board I read. Lots of people saying "he is my #1 want" or that he would be THE guy in this class... come on people. There is nothing in his film or camp performances or anything else to suggest that he is a mega prospect. He has tons of offers from some really good schools because with his frame and overall athleticism he can play both OLB/DE and that makes him valuable and a fit for basically every program. There is a reason that basically every service has him rated as a low 4:s: and that is because for an edge rusher there is absolutely zero "wow" to his game. Doesn't have a dynamic first step, isn't freakishly fast, isn't freakishly athletic... he isn't half the prospect of an Ishaq Williams and not the quarter of a prospect of a Jaylon Smith. He's not even a Darius Fleming. So can we cool it with the "how important" this guy is to the class? He's just not. I think there are only 2... maybe 3 tops... current commits that I would trade for Andrew Williams right now. He's simply a low 4:s: OLB prospect; nothing more and nothing less.

2. The fact that he is so strongly looking at schools like Ole Miss, FSU, Auburn... that's a gigantic red flag. He's made multiple visits to each. I'm not sure if there are any three schools more different than Notre Dame.

One month later, absolutely nothing has changed. The only thing that will shake the status quo is if he visits again. Page me if that happens... otherwise there is no remotely logical reason to expect us to land him.

No bait bro, just two differing opinions. You're strong in your conviction, as am I.

I think today's hemming and hawing is indicative of how his recruitment has played out and how it will play out. It's what I said 2 months ago and 2 weeks ago. You couldn't believe that anyone didn't believe ND wasn't his leader (or something very close to that effect), and I can't believe how anyone would think we are his leader.

We both could be right, we both could be wrong. But, thanks to Andrew's words to all reporters today, I'm right :rbanana: j/k

In light of today's erroneous reports, here's what we know:

1. Andrew has named one school in his top 5 --- Notre Dame.
2. Andrew is not ready to name the rest of his top 5 (i.e. all of the "Southern" schools are jockeying for positions two through five behind Notre Dame in his top 5).
3. Andrew takes a lot of unofficial visits, including three to Notre Dame (the most of any school), and will wait until after his OVs to make a decision.
4. Andrew will take an OV to Notre Dame. We do not know what other schools he will take an OV to.
5. Of the several schools Andrew continues to entertain, Notre Dame is the only school he is comfortable enough to list in his top 5 and take an OV to.

See I don't agree that he's overrated.

At 6-4 250lb he ran a 4.70 40, had a 34 inch vert, and a power throw of 43ft at the Opening. Even if the numbers were off, relatively speaking his Sparq rating of 119 was damn good and among the top for DL. He may not be Zo Carter athletic but he also weighs 20lb more than him.

At The Opening according to all accounts he performed very well against the nations best competition.

Lastly look at his offer list! Kid has a offer from EVERY MAJOR TEAM in the country. Alabama, USC, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, etc... He has offers from all of them.

I do think his upside is greatest at 4-3 DE which we run 50% of the time anyway. To me he's every bit of the prospect that Rochell was, maybe better but he isn't near,y the personality fit that Isaac is. I still feel like we will be in it until the end here.

You just posted a tweet saying Williams has not yet named a top 5 but your first point is that he put ND in his top 5. His top 5 which doesn't exist.

I contemplate not posting this because I don't want it to look as you are be ganged up on but I do think there is some bias and for those that don't have pay site info we should try and be as unbias as possible.

1. Andrew named a top six and left out ND. Then called Loy and said that was incorrect we are in his top 3 to 5. This isn't the first time he has left us out when talking to other site reporters to then turn around and say something different to our reporters
2. According to nobody I have read do any teams follow us in his top 5. That is misleading because he has never said that. Clemson and Ole Miss have been constants the whole time.
3. Yes, Andrew has taken a lot of unofficial visits to ND but hasn't for awhile. He continues to say that he will, yet nothing is planned.
4. He is only telling ND reporters that he'll take an official and it's not planned. We all know that an official is "official" when it's planned, which his isn't.
5. He is clearly comfortable enough to rave about Clemson and others every chance he gets.

There isn't one reporter that I follow that believes ND leads. We are in the mix just like many schools are. The general consensus from all at II and Loy is that we have ground to make up here. Loy thinks Clemson. I will post if I can find somethin from Wiltfong but I would bet he shares Loy's sentiment.

Lucky, I always enjoy reading your posts. You seem like a nice guy. Let me ask you some questions:

1. Andrew was supposed to name a top 5 at The Opening. To my knowledge, he did not end up naming a top 5 at the event, but he did name one school in his top 5. Correct or incorrect?

2. Are you saying that Andrew named a top 6 to the Rivals Georgia Tech reporter, and then told Keith Niebuhr (247) that he has not named a top 5, and then told Loy that he did name a top 6 but forgot ND and that we are in his top 3 or top 5? Or did the conversation he had with Loy happen before the conversation with Niebuhr?
