What is the "uniform surprise"?

I hear you. But it could be worse. We wear gold helmets to represent the dome, this might have a big golden dome on it.

We'll see...

I think number 3 is a close up of the helmet and the leprechaun is gonna be there. Looks like the back of his head to me.

That is what I was thinking as well. The black line doesn't make sense for a stripe, but it does make sense for the outline of the leprechaun. As well, the color to the left of the black stripe isn't perfect white, it's more of a grey/blue (at least on my screen), which matches the color of the leprechaun's head.

I vaguely recall a story about how Lou wanted to put an outline of the dome on the helmet when he first got here, but was shot down. Don't remember the details, exactly.

Saw this elsewhere...

White helmet with the dome in gold outlined in blue?

Think about it.

I don't like it but unfortunately it is making more and more sense that it could be a legit possibility (regarding the white helmet)

We will see on "8.16.12"

If that happened, I would personally write a letter to Jack expressing my displeasure and encouraging everyone else to do so. Like Title, I would get all NDNation on them. Changing the color of the helmet is going too far.

For those twitterettes of the ie world. I saw somewhere that the same company as last year did the helmets again. From the picture that we assume is from the helmet it is hard to determine what color (gold, white) would be on the majority of the helmet.

Times are changing, you can still keep tradition while trying new things every once in a while. If the uniforms didn't look good and the kids didn't like them we wouldn't wear them, stuff like this appeals to recruits. If it makes the players and recruits happy then it should make all of ND nation happy.

Just a quick representation.
Don't shoot me.

I won't shoot you (not even with a spitball) but I will say that that helmet design, whoever brain-farted it, is a deluded hack without a jot of design talent. That has to be the most absurd and asinine "concept" I've ever seen. Hell, even when I was ingesting LSD, psilocybin, mescaline and peyote that would have come across as an ugly-*** piece of fecal matter.

Bum trip, man ...

I'm all for attracting recruits and positive attention to the program. I can handle adding shamrocks. I can even stomach those disgusting things we wore against Maryland. But to switch the color away from Gold wrecks the symbolism of the golden dome and the domed tops of the helmets, the religious (marian) significance of the gold and blue, and honestly, its just a central part of our identity. I love alternate units. But some things simply cannot be improved.

When is our contract with Adidas up anyway?

Not to totally knock Adidas but their football gear, is so behind Nike its embarrassing.

I fell in love with ND because of their simplicity regarding flash when it comes to advertising, jerseys and what not, but the incoming generation of elite athletes won't see or understand the mystique of said simplicity.

It's not just about player jerseys either, its the fans as well. The last ND item I purchased was the blue and white pullover BK wore last year or the year before. Everything else has been very bland.

Future recruits see this. I don't necessarily think the simplistic ND style has ever deterred a commitment, it definitely doesn't help that we are leagues behind Nike sponsored teams such as Oregon.

I expect to be flamed by the traditionalists but anyone under the age of 30 sees this.

Looks like the top of a number 8 to me.

Use a photo editing program and run it through some color filters like black and white or change contrast/colors etc and you can see the designs.

Celtic shield would definitely be pretty awesome but right under the "IRISH" name should be the number right.

Well swatch 3 definately looks like a helmet. They could come out in pink with flaming unicorns on their helmet for all I care, as long as they win the game

I'm with you here. I'm not up for changing the helmets but if they want to alter the jersey's to create some excitement, I'll sign off on that.
