Classic. Reps.

Its just an article titled "Time For a Defensive Roll" which talks about getting Bonner and Blankenship's commitments in a short period of time and what that means for defensive recruiting. More discussion than predicting commitments. Nothing that you guys don't already know.

Thanks Buzz Killington.

I saw this the other day but was celebrating our country's independence and couldn't post:

Wiltfong currently has ND predictions for (w/date he made prediction):

WR Corey Holmes (5/14)
TE/OLB Tyler Luatua (3/19)
WR Michiah Quick (7/3)
OL Braden Smith (3/23)
CB Nick Watkins (5/29)
LB Richard Yeargin III (6/15)

The only serious ND target he's predicted to another school is Nyles Morgan (Vanderbilt).

I'd agree with him on all but Smith. Just a gut feeling that it'll be Texas A@M.

his committment is probably the lowest on the need scale so if that's all we missed on out of that group i would be happy happy happy

I agree, but my gut is with TCU. I think Smith will be drawn to a smaller campus. TCU and ND are basically the same size while A&M is one of the largest in the country. I bet if you asked Wiltfong, this is the one he has the least confidence in as well.

Just a reminder, Holmes visit to UCLA is over (though he's still in LA) so we could get a commitment from him any day now. I haven't seen anything on 247 or Rivals about his visit

Yup the one in his thread that STL posted that said "I loved it. It was awesome"

I got a bad feeling this drags out a little longer than we'd like

I could see Holmes popping in the next two weeks. He loved his UCLA visit. He needs to come down from that and then decide.

How many WRs are we planning to take? Just curious as we have Brent solidly in the fold and seem to be in a good spot with both Holmes and McKenzie plus still as far as I know going after the Lousiana guys, Quick, and a couple others. Seems in particularly good shape with Holmes, McKenzie, and Quick so is it now an issue that if guys want to be assured of a spot need to commit soon? Any idea of the likely WR commits what order they rank on the coaches board?

IIRC, I believe the staff is targeting 4, but could go as high as 5.

For one, Malachi Dupre is #1 on the staff's board at WR.

Then there is Corey Holmes, Allen Lazard, Cameron Sims, Isaiah McKenzie etc.

Also ATH's JuJu and Quick that can be superstars on the defensive side of the ball too. (Juju at S, Quick at CB)

We also were recruiting heavily, but have somewhat cooled on: Josh Malone and Mark Andrews (I assume Nic Weishar took his role, the Eifert role).

Then there is Trey Quinn, Johnnie Dixon, Saeed Blacknail, and KD Cannon, with whom you hear ND was recruiting, but then it cooled down and you don't hear the recruits talk much about or mention ND.

I pray McKenzie gets his academic situation cleared up and is the next one to commit because I think Holmes is going to take OVs

Please Please Please can we take some DT's? preferably lots of them? By far the most important position in college football IMO

I Disagree. Compare how many national title teams have NFL QB's, and how many have NFL DT's.

QBs have far more impact on the college level, pro level, any level, really.

Becoming a NFL QB doesn't have much to do with it. See, Tim Tebow, any Oregon QB ever, Colt McCoy, etc. These QBs were without a doubt the most important player on their college teams, but never will be good in the NFL.

2011 Bama had 3 starting NFL DL, plus a backup who got drafted as well. And Auburn had Nick Fairley before that, and in 2009 Bama had 6 future NFL DL. Florida in 2008 had 2 future DL, but Meyer's never been big on great defense. 2007 LSU had 6 future NFL DL as well. Among those teams, the NFL Qbs are Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, Greg McElroy, and Matt Flynn i believe. Hardly a stellar collection, but I'll concede that you do need an excellent QB. I just think a great DL is more capable of carrying a team with an average QB than a Great QB carrying a team with an average DL.

All of those QBs besides Flynn were great QBs in college, though. No one's saying DL doesn't matter, I agree that it's most important position on defense, but you're going no where in without a QB.

Jesse Williams wasn't anything that special for Bama this year, 5th Round draft pick.

I'm pretty sure Nick Saban, Kirby Smart and T Town Tommy would disagree with you. You can add NDWorld247 to that list as well. Importance to college team has very little correlation to NFL draft position.

And....the question we should be focused on in this thread for the next few days is, who will likely be the next to commit after Corey Holmes.
