New show on FX. Anyone start on it? Supposedly a Wire-esque show and a darling of critics. It seems like it is going to be to the El Paso border what the Wire was to Baltimore, in terms of taking on all the different angles and elements.

Anyways, I'm about 20 minutes into it and I am already so annoyed by the woman who is apparently the central character (the McNulty, if you will, to continue the analogy) that I want to turn it off. Can anyone tell me if she gets more bearable or if the show in general is good enough to overcome her?

The actress is the woman from Inglorious Basterds, which I loved, and I didn't mind her in that. The rest of the show seems pretty good and the acting is all pretty professional (the leads have all done things I've seen). But if the main character is this poorly written I'm not going to be able to do it.

But no I've never seen it. It has a 7.7 on imbd, so it shouldn't be too great.

Yeah I haven't made it far enough in to figure that out. But OK, I won't make fun of her if that is the case. Doesn't make it good TV, though.

Never heard of it, I'll have to check it out. On a scale from 1-10 how would you rate it?

Apparently it's based on a Swedish/Danish show that was a hit in Scandinavia and the U.K. I'm definitely gonna check this out. Sounds intriguing.

Just based on the first episode, maybe a 7 or 8. It wasn't mind blowing, but it has potential to be good. I just had to get past the quirkiness of the lead woman. If the character has aspergers, that explains a lot of it. It's just a little uncomfortable to watch someone be so awkward.

I think I like the show. I think it might range from pretty good...to great. Time will tell though.

So what was up with the girl rubbin' on herself and then going out and bangin' a stranger?

2 episodes in and there hasn't been a mention of her having Aspergers. Does she really have it...or is she just a weirdo?

Please no spoilers (if possible), Buster (or whomever), in your response.

Haha really? I plan to watch this show but I haven't started yet ... saving 'em up on the DVR to binge watch when the wife's not around (she doesn't dig stuff like this).

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that she has something ... These days TV seems to love these characters who suffer from mental health problems, especially if it makes them slutty (a la Carrie Matheson in Homeland).

P.S. This is off-topic but does anyone watch Shameless on Showtime? It's about a poor family with a drunk dad on Chicago's South Side, and it's shot and takes place near where I work, so I'm interested in it, but my wife isn't, and I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth insisting that we should try it or if I should just move on. Our TV time is limited these days, so I just can't invest in any shows that aren't awesome, haha.

I started watching after reading this thread. I really like it and agree it has "great" potential. I don't know if she has aspergers, but she definitely has something (ie, not just a weirdo). I like her though.

Shameless is in my top 5!

It's freaking crude, gross, degrading, racist, stereotypical, pushes the limits, HILARIOUS, and well, shameless!

As for The Bridge, I've watched the first two episodes and am really annoyed with the main character too. I'll keep going, especially after reading that she has some type of disorder, but it can't be too long before it gets as ridiculous as SOA.

Make sure your wife knows beforehand, that Frank Gallagher does some pretty appalling things to everyone including his kids.

One last BTW- Shameless is a remake of a BBC series that you can watch on Netflix.

Netflix has the BBC original. Is that one worth watching? I normally can't stand British TV or movies.
