Don't hate!

My senior year at Humble, we had over 20k at our rivalry game...and that was 12 years ago.

One thing we love down here.....Football. High School football.

and 32nd in graduation rate is good?

Not saying it's good, it's just unfair to call it "last".

And by way of background, this school has about 5500 students, and when they play Southlake Carroll this year this stadium will be standing room only.

Lots of cities/counties/states/schools build new stadiums all the time. Sort of lame to hate on Texas just because it's better than everyone else at it.

I'm not hating on Texas because they are good at High School football, i'm hating on them because they schools spending $60MM on a stadium when they are consistently in the bottom half in educational rankings. They have teachers losing jobs, budget cuts and limited technology budgets... but the football team needs a $60MM stadium with a jumbotron and field turf?

Call it hating if you want to, but the stadium would still be filled without things like Jumbotrons and field turf. That is simply examples of why schools in Texas suck at actually teaching their children. They would rather have a jumbotrons than computer labs.

From the article:

Allen Eagle Stadium's construction continued even as Texas lawmakers cut the state's education funding by $4 billion, reducing all school district tax rates by about one-third in 2006. By the 2011-2012 school year, Allen was facing a $4.5 million budget shortfall and was forced to cut 44 teaching positions and 40 support positions through attrition and voluntary buyouts.

i'm sure those 44 teachers they laid off in Allen can't wait to see the new Jumbotron...

There's just something about it...Something around the eyes, I don't know, reminds me of...me.

No. I'm sure of it, it's hating.

It must be that Texas education you have. It makes it hard to differentiate between common denominators... been staring at the Jumbotron for too long...

Everyone knows if you are going to make it in this country, education will only get you so far. But football, is guaranteed success.

How did you know that the Texas GOP wants to stop teaching critical thinking in schools? When called on it, they said it was a typo. Perhaps critical thinking would have come in handy then.

Some of these responses are comical. The people of this school district voted to build this with money raised by a bond proposal, completely separate from the district's operating budget. So the budget cuts going on would still be happening even without the new stadium.

I was in Waco, Tx and the high school stadium for the Wildcats is about as big as Northwestern. They have produced several big time athletes like LaMichael James.

Regardless of where the money comes from it sends the wrong message. I think that's what most people on here that find this ridiculous mean, I know I do at least.
