I don't think the odds are great but being a kid from the Commonwealth and a beast at an area of need this would be my #1 pick of kids from this class.

Probably uninteresting sidenote...John Hardin is a new school but it was formed from a few other schools one of which was North Hardin. When I was in high school North Hardin scheduled us for their homecoming, we did not take this very kindly. My high school team did not lose a regular season game for the 4 years I was there and felt pretty insulted to be scheduled for a homecoming where teams usually schedule their weakest opponents. We gave them quite a homecoming beatdown, if memory serves correctly 35-7 was the final score.

You are right, that was rather uninteresting, LOL!

Tell me more about what part of the state we are talking and why multiple high schools were combined. Old buildings? Falling enrollment? Or creating one super-school?

Will be very surprised if h doesn't end up at Kentucky. Would be HUGE to get an official out of him IMO.

The part of the state where Elam is from is Hardin County, Elizabethtown being the biggest city. (There was oddly enough a movie set there with Kirsten Dunst.) Elizabethtown is about 45 miles south of Louisvillle along I-65. Also not far from Bourbon country. I don't know much about whether the school has a very good football program. It appears they went to a state championship game a few years ago before losing to Ft. Thomas Highlands (Austin Collinsworth's old school) but KY high school football is weird these days going up to a ridiculous 6A, 4A used to be the biggest. In some of the classes entire regions are very weak, for example my old high school won their class state championship game by like 40 points a couple years ago, basically as soon as they won their region it was known they were going to be state champions. The current powerhouses in KY football I believe would be Louisville Trinity (6A), Ft. Thomas Highlands (4A), and Bowling Green High (5A).

However, I was apparently wrong that North Hardin became John Hardin, it appears on the internet North Hardin still exists, I thought it had become part of John Hardin when the high school was created in 2001. I think it must have just taken over some of North Hardin's district, because North used to be one of the biggest public high schools in KY and is now significantly smaller. Sorry about the mistake.

Trinity (6A) is the best team in Ky by far. St X. has had some great years but it appears Trinity is the current school of choice amongst private catholic schools.

As far as John Hardin... it was formed when they split North Hardin into a couple of other schools. North Hardin still exists and was a huge school... by Ky terms anyway... and E-Town and Hardin Co has grown faster than the current school systems could keep up.

Getting Elam away from UK would be huge for ND. He needs a year in the weight room in order to be effective IMO so playing in year one probably won't happen.

So they split a school. Thanks for the info. Been to Cave City, and used to drive Cinci to Louisville to Lexington and back, regularly, and spent some time at Lake Cumberland, so I knew Jamestown a litte, but I appreciate the football layout of KY ball. Just kidding about the story; it was a good story, bro!

110% correct I meant to put Trinity rather than St. X and really no idea why I made that mistake. Edited my post to fix this. When I was in school Trinity and St. X were on basically equal terms, but Trinity is FAR superior now. Actually Bowling Green High (5A) has beat St. X two straight years so they're not even close to Trinity. Thanks for the info on John Hardin, I knew there was some connection to North Hardin, I just made mistake in thinking north Hardin no longer existed. E-town is not very big at all, but the county is big. I think North Hardin was so big in part bc they used to have a lot of military families who were stationed in nearby Ft. Knox. Reps for fixing my glaring Trinity/St. X error.

No problem. Close to my old stomping grounds in Campbellsville. Also, had a niece grad from John Hardin. And yes... in my day we hated North Hardin in sports. LOL

Trinity vs. St Xavier in recent years can be summed up by the following:

Coach Beatty >>>> Coach Glazer. Hence coaching change at St. X.

Just to put it into perspective on a couple accounts, I think we have quite a bit better chance with Elam than with Andrews. Take that as you will.

Trinity is by far the best team in the state. For most of the last few years espn has ranked them as the top team in the nation.

There should be a rule against this. Dumbest tactic in college FB recruiting.

Personally, I would be annoyed if I was a recruit.

No, the new rules haven't taken effect yet. The old rules permit this behavior and the new rules actually wiped away any limits on what printed materials colleges can send recruits before the NCAA, after backlash from its members, suspended it.

I really think recruiting is the only thing that is keeping the USPS in business.

I don't really have a problem with it. ND is probably better off without any kid that wants to be inundated with facile love letters from middle-aged men.

This. Anybody who has to be recruited this way will have a very difficult time with the de-recruitment efforts to join a team trying to pull together and win. If we can't do it through honest coaches, good facilities, world class education, and a rich tradition dating back decades, then we shouldn't really be expecting them to be ND type of kids.

I agree with both of you. ND doesn't need to do this. But the problem lies with the players and, more importantly, parents, that don't want or need dozens of generic letters in their mailbox everyday but get them anyway. You've both insinuated that players ask for and want this. I have no doubt Elam loves it (he seems to really like the attention), but I would guess most players don't.

And, what about the trees man? Think about the environment!

You could certainly make a good argument that the families of recruits should be shielded from the junk mail blitz lots of programs inflict upon them. I was arguing only from ND's perspective, as I don't think it disadvantages us. In fact, it may help us differentiate sooner between those kids who are susceptible to this crap and those who have the maturity to see it for what it is.

Most recruits probably enjoy it initially. One might post a pic like the above for innocuous reasons; like "Isn't recruiting crazy?" or "Guess I'm kind of a big deal!" Nothing wrong with those sentiments. But if any recruit is actually swayed by this silly courtship ritual, then we're better off without him.

I would think people would feel very creeped out receiving all those letters. At least that's the girls I wrote used to tell me.

If the NCAA won't do anything, we should contact these guys.
