Dude is awesome-so excited to see how he plays this year. The significant experience gained last year as a full timeer-being injury free, unlike last year where he was hobbled toward the end of the season, and now one of the leaders. I may be wrong, but he will end up dominating this year like no other ND lineman in the last 20+ years. Swimming in the Kool-Aid.

Not sure that is much of a leap. (Get it!) To get in the Kool-Aid pool!

There is every sign that you are right based upon logic, not Kool-Aid, including the rest of the defense, players, strategy, and tactics.

Would love to know what other players did.

I would have guessed more than 29 for Tuitt also, but his long arms cant be helping him.

Richardson may have half the wingspan of Tuitt. That kind of bench work for a guy that big is impressive. Then consider he isn't happy with it, feels he could have done better. Our D-line will be one for the ages.

Anyone know whether he's planning to stay in the 320ish range all season? I was under the impression that he was planning to get back to the 300-305 pound range and the extra weight was a result of his injury and not being able to work out, but now it sounds like he's going to stay at 322 or close to it.

By the way, our starting 3-man D line comes in at a total of 18'11" and 969 pounds, meaning our average across the front is just shy of 6'4" and weighs 323 pounds. Holy schnikes

I think he wants to be around 310. Expect a more balanced Tuitt than last year.

How does one move a half ton object when it's coming toward you? You don't, you get out of the way.

BK had previously said that he was supposed to get back down to the 310-315 range. So he is supposed to be bigger than last year but not this big. I know not too many on here are worried about it but Prister and Sampson definitely are, TIFWIW.

So am I understanding this correctly, that Tuitt is around 322 and people were expecting him to be about 315? Because, if so, we are talking about a difference of about 2% of his weight, which in the case of most normal-sized humans is an amount that could be gained or lost in an afternoon depending on how you spent it. Still think there is a lot of fuss about this because there is a lot of ND media and engaged fans, and not a lot of stuff to talk about at this point in the summer. Can't wait for this Temple game to get here.

Tuitt could probably take a dump and come outta the stall 5 lbs lighter lol. Agreed people go and make fun of Kim Khardasian's weight instead :D

29 reps on 225 with his long arms is extremely impressive, bench press is 10 times easier when you have T-REX arms like Trent Richardson

Are there pass-rushers, defensive ends, weighing 315 lbs in the NFL? I think that even 300 lbs is a lot, for example, Watt is a good example at 6'6 (like tuitt) and 290 lbs.

Anyway, i am more worried about his fundamentals (stay low, less hesitation with his punch, improve his flexibility to use better his strenght) than his body-weight.

The guys at II were speculating the other day that he is currently over that 322 number by a good amount.

JJ Watt is the best 3-4 DE in the NFL at that weight. I would like to see Tuiit at around 300 plus or minus 5lbs. Personal opinion is I don't think Tuitt should even be at 315. I was going to weight until I saw what it looked like first but it clearly isn't good weight. I know this isn't a popular opinion but it is one that I share with those guys.

Peppers and Mario Williams are close to 300lbs.

I agree.

Irish19, Mario and Julius are 6'7 tall with 295 and 289 lbs respectively. Muhammad Wilkerson was a 6'4 255 lbs after his HS year and now he is at 315 lbs (more of a DT than DE). Tuitt had similar measures in HS and now.

Oh yeah, Peppers and Williams are taller and have different body types. They are the only two pass rushers I can think of that are 300lbs (or close to 300lbs).

Richard Seymour is the closest NFL comparison I can think of off the top of my head. If I'm not mistaken, he played a 3 tech in the 4-3 and a 5 tech in the 3-4.

After I read the write up in the South Bend Tribune Annual (ND Insider), I am no longer worried about his weight. He went and trained with a former trainer of his after last season and was extremely proficient in improving his overall strength, motor and endurance. He is "starving" in his own words(no pun intended) for success as opposed to hungry for it. His trainers gauge for how bad you want it.

He has trained very hard...That is why he said he worked very hard and his body took care of the rest. I honestly don't think he grasps the amount of attention he is receiving because he is bigger. I understand it looks a little like some bad weight, I agree but I think it is minimal and the majority of the weight gain was muscle. Especially in his legs, they are the size of trees...big ones. He will be an immovable object in the run game without losing much speed to rush the passer. Adding strength may have increased the speed in which he gets to the quarterback i.e. shedding blocks, etc. even though he may have lost a little foot speed. Overall, NET Gain.

He reminds me body wise of Kevin Williams the DT for the Vikings (Williams is 6'5" 310 pounds or so).

3-4 DE's are supposed to be more like DTs in a 4-3 anyway. JJ Watt isn't really a good comparison because despite being in a 3-4, Houston still plays a 1-gap system. Muhammad Wilkerson is probably the best prototype of a 3-4 DE. 300 is probably the lowest you want your 3-4 DE to be ideally (just like you would in a 4-3 DT).
