Saw Joe Cocker last summer at Bethel Woods (the Woodstock site). Awesome show. I like Joe Cocker a lot.

For what it's worth, Golson's ND teammates expect him back. He is very well-liked on the team and really does love Notee Dame. There is also a rumor (ie: I cannot confirm nor deny the truth of this) going around campus that EG will enroll at Holy Cross this fall to be close to the program. If true, that certainly implies he has every intention of returning.

And back then, he was known as the "Colon Cowboy."

:cowboy:

Hey, Hey!!! Oh, never mind. What's the use. I think it's night-night time. Wait – "Would you care for another Cabernet, M'Lord?" "Not a bad idea, Jeeves, not a bad idea at all."

Ah, pretty sure Cocker does NOT have CP dude.

Cocker 'Physically Damaged' By Drug And Alcohol Addiction

Singer Joe Cocker was "physically damaged" after his performances in the 1970s because of his drug and alcohol addiction.
The Up Where We Belong star admits his dependencies damaged his ability to play, and he brands a third of his gigs at the time 'rubbish'.
He says, "I was living on a liquid diet. I would start drinking at 11 in the morning and be pretty wasted by the evening.
"People have said that I played some amazing gigs in the Seventies, but in all honesty, I probably played one good show in three. I used to get so carried away while I was on stage that I'd be physically damaged by the end of a concert.
"I had a problem with cocaine and then with heroin. I wasn't injecting heroin, I was only sniffing it. But I was still amazed at how quickly you could become addicted. As soon as I realised what was going on, I was able to move on. But it took its toll. I came close to the edge."

Prob'ly why I followed YJ's Belushi, with a video that made fun of his lyrics. Trying in my own way to lighten up the thread.

You are correct. He does not. It was a rumor becauce of his on stage antics for a while in the 70s.

Bogs - just google it brother.

YJ, a chara,

Thank you very much. If you remember people that normally get along well were just trashing each other. There were so many but hurt people you thought there were a dozen mad specialist performing colonoscopies on the thread posters, without versaid or fentanyl! I mean there were so many butt hurt peeps. I was looking for cover; and I don't usually shy from a fight.

Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent's fate.
Sun Tzu

I was going to hang it on Joe's alcoholism or addiction, but that didn't elicit the right pathos, therefore the mechanism of my post didn't have the moral superiority (false) to work. So I pulled out the old rumor; little did I expect anyone to be able to expose my bullshiit, I mean my hyperbole! You guys are way too smart. LOL>\.

So there is some mystery to the "site chump!" And my advice is, you haven't lived until you have had a colonoscopy. And it ain't the colonoscopy, it's the prep!

Beir bua agus beannacht,

Bogs

PS. dshans, two independent clauses need to be glued with a semi colon; dependent clauses, use your comma all day! Colon's are dead. The last writer to successfully use them was James Joyce.

i doubt EG will be handed the starters job when/if he comes back, i could easily see Kelly making him a backup for a year or two until he proves himself worthy once again

He'll only have two years of eligibility left if he returns to ND.

Bad sign #2. You cannot be out of football for a year and expect to start next fall. Just not feelin it fellas.

Cannot start next fall if a kid who has had well documented trouble in the classroom fails to correct that and can't get back into school.

Get the schoolwork in order first, or you don't get a chance at winning back the job.

I think Golson will most definitely get the starter job when he comes back.

Rees and Hendrix will be gone.

That means if and when Golson returns, only Malik Zaire and Deshone Kizer will be scholarship QBs (Unless they take another QB in this class).

I think Kelly would say its a battle, and Golson would presumably have some rust to work off, but I would fully expect him to beat those two out.

Truly is a shame because Golson could have been one of the most prolific QBs in ND history if you ask me. Everything was clicking just right

Why? Guys get injured and miss a year all the time...

He will only have two years of eligibility remaining and no I don't think he would make him be a backup just to prove a point.

This all comes down to Malik's development. Not about whether Malik starts or is third team this year, but where he is at next spring and summer.

Do you know something about Hendrix that we don't; by last count he had this year and next year.

The assumption is that he will take his 5th year elsewhere.

Regarding the rust: Golson will be able to be readmitted to ND beginning in the Spring of 2014 (1 semester off, IIRC). He may not get his schollie back immediately (until Fall 2014), but, I think, could be enrolled for the Spring semester (though I have not read nearly as much on the subject as others, so please correct me if I am wrong...). So he could have spring practice to knock some of the rust off. Also I am sure he practice and workout, etc. during his break. Obviously, there is not substitute for game action, but it won't be like he didn't throw a ball for year and a half.

Tom Loy spoke with some sources about Golson and:

A) He didn't visit Riverside and was home in Myrtle Beach

B) Golson is expected to return to SB and take classes elsewhere and/or get a job and stay in shape

C) Golson is expected to work out over the summer w/ QB guru George Whitfield in Cali (Really really big deal)

Bump again.

I think that's right. He will likely be back in Spring of 2014. And I don't see why he would have to wait longer to get his scholarship back.

You do know that his stats weren't really on fire, remains to be seen how he would have turned out. I highly doubt he would have passed Quinn or Clausen in regards to records.

Guys who are injured are still on the team. They get to watch film and participate in everything team related. Pulling someone out of the atmosphere for almost a year would not be productive to his learning curve.

Maybe, maybe not. But it is undeniable that Golson progressed as the season was going on. He had a huge arm and good shifty feet. This offense is made for his strengths. You're right, one season was not enough to judge him entirely but you could see what was coming together and with a good sophomore season he could have had two more years to excel and be a star. But we will never know what could have been, because the crucial sophomore year of eligibility is wasted and he will come back after a year of no football with only two years of eligibility left.

The team could have developed and been taken to a new level with Golson providing stability at QB but it is what it is. I'm just ready for the season to start.

Which is why I think this is important:

C) Golson is expected to work out over the summer w/ QB guru George Whitfield in Cali (Really really big deal)

And he will most assuredly be watching film. I agree that it may stunt his development but I don't see any reason why it would prevent him from starting next fall unless Malik just takes off development wise.

Is there anything more concrete from Golson himself that he wants to come back, other than the quote from the:

"Sources indicate that Golson is expected to be back at ND".

To play devils advocate, this doesn't say it's from Golson. ND could be expecting Golson back, whereas Golson is entertaining all options.

Not going to lie, I'd feel a lot more confident if Golson came out and said "I want to be back and ND and I'm going to do everything I can to make that happen. Playing for another school isn't even on my mind". Or something along those lines.

I thought Golson's "statement" after it happened made it pretty clear that he planned on being back at ND. Something along the lines of appreciating the opportunity ND is giving him to work his way back.

People at ND fully expect him to be back.
