Its a set up. 3 games in we see Malik.

Im thinking we may get to see some of Malik, just because we never really know if Golson will be back or if Hendrix will return for another year. But didnt his high school run the wing T? Im not saying he wont be ready or able to learn in time im just curious due to it being so different.

Ugh. I'm all for Tommy being the starter (Team Tommy here), but I still want him to be hungry and fight for it every day in practice, knowing that he has to beat someone else out. I know he's a hard worker and everything, but it's just something about competition that brings out the best in many people.

I get that side but I also think it's BK telling Tommy to worry about Temple and prep for Temple then worry about Hendrix.

I get this... but what if they all arrive in the fall and Rees is the third best QB in practice??

There is no point in burning Malik's red shirt for a couple of appearances. Either Turnover Tomy shows up, or we get a great surprise from Tommy. I think if Turnover Tommy shows up especially early on in he season, MZ is in. Our defense is good enough to help MZ out like it did last year with EG.

We know a few things here:
1) Golson is gone maybe for good.
2) At best next year we have Hendrix (5th senior), Zaire (Red-shirt freshman), and this years recruit(s) - maybe Golson (big question mark), at worst we have MZ and true freshmen.
3) its no coincidence that two days after BK names TR a starter, we get a QB commit. I bet the recruits were waiting to see if MZ was going to take over. BKs "statement" ended that, for now.
4)Hendrix has not been able to supplant TR yet even though he is more mobile.
5) the staff have commented numerous times on MZ's big arm and mobility and grasp on the playbook. He is also undoubtedly a leader of his recruiting class. His HS team switched to an offense with more passing his senior year if I remember correctly.

Interesting points here, but I don't believe for a second that DK's commitment had anything to do with "Rees or Zaire".

I have to disagree with a lot of this--but let me say personally I would prefer to see multiple QBs and a lot of Zaire running ( he is a terrific runner with a to die for stiff arm)---BUT I THINK THATS NOT WHAT KELLY HAS PLANNED!

Kelly says " tommy will not have to fight for the starting job"---to me that means this is going to be TOMMY's team unless & until he screws up very badly.

Kelly says " Hendrix will continue to be able to help the team"--that translates into Hendrix will be the back-up ONLY---he will be there only if tommy gets hurt or fails miserably.

Kelly says " he doesn't think golson will be playing football anywhere this season" that means coach has strong feelings that Golson will be back in 2014

Kelly says " zaire will continue to grow into the position"--that translates into the clear plan to redshirt malik

Bottom Line---Its REES -the plan is tommy wire to wire--Hendrix will NOT have a package or rotate in unless tommy is in REAL trouble!

Zaire will redshirt and the plan is to have him BACK-UP a returning golson in 2014---

Coach I think is going to cast his dye with Tommy this season like it or not ---with his eye toward the 2014 QB spot with Golson starting, reseated into that spot & Zaire backing him up as a REDSHIRT frosh & Kizer as the true frosh.

Its logical--IT WOULD NOT BE MY CHOICE---but if he can get by with a decent season from REES the QB spot could look much better with a returning golson and great talent in zaire backing him and a great prospect in kizer as the true frosh.

We all our going to have to accept its tommy and that we will have to hope he can live up to the coaches confidence----

I see 9-3 regular season as the BEST we can do with tommy but with a BOWL WIN that gets us to ten wins it won't be horrible and 2014 will look AWESOME on the offensive side with a golson return very likely.

In 1989, Notre Dame undergraduates and faculty published an Academic Code of Honor Handbook to express their shared commitment to respect and honor the intellectual and creative contributions of each individual. Today, as a precondition for admission to the University, all undergraduates pledge:

As a member of the Notre Dame community, I will not participate in or tolerate academic dishonesty.

Emphasis added.

The pessimism about golson is somewhat unfounded IMO.---He said he plans to return--we have said we are open to that---coach is optimistic about it and his plans for zaire will reflect that---golson will concentrate on academic shortfalls and that should do it.

From Everett's standpoint there is ABSOLUTLEY no percentage in going elsewhere--here he has an offense built for his skills--he has coaches that WANT HIM to be the starting QB and have total confidence in his football skills---he has ALREADY led the irish into the title game, in itself that is MORE then 90% of division 1 QBs will achieve throughout an entire career. At another school he will be a square ONE--new coaches--new competition-new scheme--and he still will have school of some sort----HERE he has the opportunity in January to walk back into the starting spot on a contending football powerhouse with a great coach he has a great relationship with----ABSOLUTE NO BRAINER---

Everett will do everything necessary to return and we will be happy to let him back in just like WALLS & GRAY-----a different decision will be very risky and a few months go by fast---------

85% Golson will return and will start in 2014!

Not worried. For once I'm like, meh,,,, and thinking more like BK (focus on what you have). I love EG, but I never really drank the kool aid. Not saying he couldn't be a superstar, but I think we inflated things a bit. If he would have been here this year, he would have had to step it up in a big way over last year.

Hoping Tommy Touchdown knocks it out of the park this year with a little help from his friends.

I don't think Golson is going to make it back.

I think he will. Honestly if he wasn't going to be able to, he would be enrolled in another school right now (SEC). He must feel very solid about his chances to come back to ND if he's not enrolled in another school, so as long as he's not enrolled in a school with a D1 football program I will feel good about his chances to return.

Good point here. The kid wants to play football. If he already knew ND wasn't an option, he would be pursuing alternate options.

I was totally onboard with it, however with the revelation that this was not his first time doing this AND he didn't tell the staff means that a level of trust is now gone. Frankly you can't have that if you are a starting D1 QB especially at ND.

I've stayed away from this discussion until now since I had the feeling that it would get messy. I would hazard the guess that ND (as well as damn near any college or university) has had an Honor Code/Code of Honor from day one. The wording may have been more terse and compact back in 1970, but I remember "signing on" to just such a thing in 1970.

Had any of you access to my academic records "in my day" at ND it would be clear to all that I took my lumps rather than short cuts. I don't recall any cheating incidents among the many students I knew. I doubt that I would have "ratted," but I sure as hell would have recommended that they stop that sh¡t right away.

You're telling me that the Sultan of Synatx... the Grammar Hammer... the Caliph of Commas... had trouble with school?

Yep.

I like "Caliph of Commas" even though they, to this day, are one of my weakest points grammatically. To comma or semicolon, that is the question.

*I apologize for semi-castrating my buddy the colon.

Once upon a time he was a Sucker at Syntax.

Hard work (and many years) prevailed.

As to the "many years" I agree. Reading, reading and reading more of the works of competent writers helped. Was it "hard?" Nah, not really. A struggle (to comprehend) at times, but a pleasure nonetheless.

And yes, my syntactic abilities were somewhat crude when I was five and six ...

I love Joe Cocker. He is one of the few Englishmen I hold in this high regard. Normally I like what John Belushi did, except that last night. But making fun of a man with Cerebral Palsy, that has done so much is just a little too . . . over the top; kind of like the performers of the vaudevillian days doing exaggerated stereotypes of AA's with blackface . . .

Here is a tribute to Joe. And with the contention on this thread, listen to the words s'il vous plait!

Ah, pretty sure Cocker does NOT have CP dude.

For Joe Cocker fans, I recommend the film "Mad Dogs and Englishmen". A real period piece of a tour in 1970 and the music of the times. Lots of great musicians, including Leon Russel, backing Joe.

Back in undergraduate days, dshans needed a colonoscopy.

Yeah? YEAH? YEAH? Well ... same to you, bud!

I'm not sure that the colonoscope had been invented back then. Hell, the colon may have been just one of those body parts "we don't know sh¡t about" at the time.

It was, however, a well defined and useful punctuation mark.
