Wish I could drink that Koop aid bro but I can't I just can't we don't have as good of a team as in years past to make up for the qbs shortcomings at best we go 8-5 imo

We have a better team... Just not as good of pass catching options...

I've been following this since it broke last night. It looks and sounds bad to the media, the recruits and certainly us ND fans. Thus far, absolutely nothing has come out of this except that Golson is "no longer enrolled". He may never play for ND again, he may be back as our starting quarterback against Temple. We don't know the true issue and we don't know the severity. We can certainly speculate and analyze how things look with or without Golson, but we should try to keep as calm as we can. Certainly with the Teo, Kiel and Vanderdoes all in the past few months, things seem like they're in a downward spiral. Let's just see what happens here!!! GO IRISH!!!

I asked my good friend, a '55 ND graduate, and a teaching professior of Anthropology, how someone could plagerize himself. That was a rumor I heard in that concantany of rash statements that was last night.

His wife, a retired professor had the answer; use the same material for two courses, without the instructors' permission. I remember, I had two classes, one creative writing and one a cultural class where I used the same short story, with an introduction and a conclusion. I got signed notes from both professors. (I could have used another short story or article for the cultural class and have avoided the whole thing). So they have always been careful about these things. Hell, we just started turning in our papers on skins when I graduated, before that it was stone tablets . . .

Interesting. There are so many shades of gray with plagiarism - if this turns out to be the charge, it would be really tough to determine how unethical it actually is. If he turned in the same paper as a teammate, or had a paper written by one of the online services that do this kind of thing, then he's in trouble. But there's lots of other stuff that is much less clear cut.

Just last week I had a student essentially reword an essay that was easily found online for her final project, but she did so using citations throughout, so it's not plagiarism. Crappy paper, but not plagiarism. The use of final papers for multiple classes is so common that I would be shocked if it's penalized anywhere, unless a paper is so blatantly written for a different class that it's obvious to everyone. Even then, it would usually just get a bad grade and not require review.

If it's this type of violation, I'll be pi$$ed b/c Lax's point is very salient here - this happens everywhere, definitions of what's ethical or unethical are blurry, and one would have to assume that EG got extra scrutiny b/c of his role on campus. But if it's something more blatant, like turning in the same papers as teammates or using an online service or something like that, then he deserves to pay the consequences.

A few thoughts:

1. As Lax said, plagiarism happens everywhere. It happens at ND. And it's dealt with, often less harshly than here.

2. ResLife is clearly willing to give the football team a little more leeway (see Floyd, Michael)

3. The new ResLife head was brought in, both reportedly and from what I've seen, to give a little more lenience in general.

These three things make me think this isn't a forgotten citation kinda deal.

Hendrix also looks stiff and confused in games. I think he is over thinking things. maybe playing time could change that, but who knows.

Playing time is the only way to tell. If Everett only got a handful of snaps all last season people would say the same thing. That's the problem with CFB every game is so important that you don't have the luxury of letting a QB struggle for a game or two so he can get the feel of the game down. Especially at ND were you don't get a couple warm up games either.

Hendrix looked really good in that second half against Stanford in 2011. Stanford was a top-5 team that year. Seems like ages ago, but if he gets enough reps, I could see him being very serviceable. He was 3rd string all last year, so who knows how many practice reps he was really getting. Could explain his jitters in games.

Except that it was over by that point.

I feel like when it comes to the Irish I'm Peter Parker with his Parker luck. If things go too well for too long something catastrophic happens. That's what 2013 has been so far. Someone also should've told Golson if he was cheating or plagerising or doing whatever that with great power comes great responsibility.

You think like this every single year, so why would this year be any different? I've never met someone so constantly miserable about ND (and life?) in my lifetime as you seem to be when you post.

Smile. It's a beautiful day, you have your health, and I believe a new gf or bride. If we can go 8-5 with Rees as a (horrible) sophomore and just a half-decent defense, then we can hit a 9-3 or 10-2 season (for me, provided the offensive line has a great season), no doubt in my mind.

Rees can win games. It's the super tough games that worry me, personally...

8-5 with Rees and Michael Floyd and Kyle Rudolph/Tyler Eifert. Rees will have less proven weapons this year.

Rees tended to fixate on Eifert/Floyd. He would stare at them and only throw to them. Maybe w/out a safety blanket he will be more difficult to read and less apt to throw picks

Can anyone tell us, with any certainty, exactly how he left school. It seems like all we know is he is no longer enrolled. Did he withdraw, get expelled, suspended? Doesn't the circumstance in which he left shed some light on if he could come back?

My point is it seems like no one knows anything for certain and the rest of this is just bs.

Why do we know the running game will be strong? We lose our 2 top running backs.

I think it has to do with the fact that we have 2 pretty decent players in GAIII and Carlisle, and everyone is excited about Bryant/Folston.

Its a lot of unknown though.

Step away from the ledge buddy. This years team has what those teams didn't.....its called a defense. We'll be fine.

Correct. We really don't know what went down. Though I think suspended would not be described as "no longer enrolled." He's separated from the university. Question is for how long and under what (if any) circumstances he can return.

I did say I think we can at best go 8-4. I go with 8-4 because I do think we might get upset by a team the last few days have killed my return to BCS optimism. Look I know I've given you plenty of reason to not take me seriously and not like me but come on LA after losing 2 5 star recruits and a great qb that helped take us to the NC forgive me if I'm not feelin a return to the championship. As far as life bro I'm great you're right I have a wedding date set, I have a new job yeah outside the Irish things couldn't be better. The Parker luck joke was related to ND I'm 2012 nothing was bad we won every game and it was wonderful in 2013 we have had a strong of bad luck. Ya can't jump me for thinking that.

No, still uncertain. And the manner in which he left will really dictate his future. The most frustrating part, aside from it all occurring, is that fact that we know almost nothing.

Let's not forget, the offense didn't get ND to the championship game last year. The defense in my opinion will be just as strong, if not stronger. Lets just get a QB in there to manage things and hope the running game is solid. I wouldn't mind seeing Zaire in there to get experience and have Rees the "reliever" if needed again. I just personally don't see Hendrix being the answer.

I've been sick since 9:48pm yesterday and just now able to even think about what's to come.. Only good that I can foresee is teams taking us lightly and Rees playing his balls off! Gotta keep the faith!!

8-4 at best is grossly pessimistic. Simple as that. This team can still easily make a BCS bowl game.

1. Neal did not leave bc he got caught smoking weed.

2. Notre Dame is going to be there through the good and bad. One kid doesnt make Notre Dame.

3. Notre Dame represents opportunity to excel at the highest level of academics and sports. Time for someone to rise to the occasion.

4. In talking to a few of the fellas...they arent worried about it. They are a TEAM, and they prepare as a team. They arent goin to give less of an effort and I expect to see one of the nastiest attitude teams come fall.

5. People blaming Kelly....get a life. Kelly can only do so much. Its a personal decision to do drugs, cheat, be on time, be a man of your word. Kelly can instill his values on them, but they got to live it.

6. We all love Notre Dame, and come Aug 31, we all are going to be watching. So stop worrying. Kelly has the best staff in the country and they arent about to give up, its only going to bring out the best in everyone.
