From the view on Google Earth, Crete is the first rural town outside of the Chicago suburban sprawl. It's not "Chicago" in an urban or even suburban sense.

This is right. I'm from Chicago and have been down to Crete/Kankakee and it feels pretty removed from Chicago. I agree that it does seem like we'll contend for him but I don't feel great about it either. His teammates (whom he seems to be close with) went elsewhere and he's clearly excited by the Bama offer. We'll see what transpires but I hope we can get him up to visit a few times. We really do need a stud middle linebacker.

I'm sure he's excited about the Bama offer. That offer says more than about any offer out there as far as football talents are concerned. But besides his lone tweet, I don't think there's anything he's said to make us think they'll be a real contender. It's not like he's on record saying he's waiting for the Alabama offer (unless I'm missing something).

The way I understood thing is that a number of players at Crete are transfers from inner city Chicago anyway. But doean't matter to me. Hope he does end up at ND because like I said, he's a hell of a player.

Told Wiltfong he has developed strong relationships with Vandy, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Florida. Likely will go the distance

My brother lives in Crete, it is definitely a suburb of Chicago. Takes about 30 mins to get to the city.. Kankakee is about 45 mins south of Crete.. That is out in the middle of no where.

Nowhere close to deciding but Wiltfong likes where Vandy is at this point. Morgan's dad is high on ND and a return visit this summer is a possibility. No plans to visit Ole Miss this summer at this point.

Loy thinks the staff has cooled on him for some reason but ultimately thinks he will still end up at ND. If that makes any sense.

It means he's a silent so the staff doesnt have to worry about keeping the pressure on.

I'm a little skeptical of that update. Loy seems to think that if we pushed for Morgan, we'd get him. So why wouldn't we push for him? ILB is a position of major need, and he's a great ILB prospect in our backyard.

True, if the rumors that Morgan has academic or character issues have any validity, then it would make sense that we've cooled on Morgan, but Wiltfong has consistently refuted those rumors. Wiltfong has a lot more credit with me than Loy right now, so I'm tempted to call b.s. on Loy here.

Why wouldn't we push for possibly the biggest hole in our roster going forward. Plus we could fill it with a high 4* caliber prospect. Must have a issue academically or morally.

Wiltfong has consistently said that there is no such issue. It's safer to assume that Morgan just isn't as high on us as Loy thinks or he just isn't ready to decide yet.

My question would be did he talk to Morgan or is he just saying that because there isn't any new visits or news on the ND side of things for Morgan?

no plausible reason I can think of to not push for this kid...other than the fact that perhaps the staff is giving him his space right now and not pushing too hard to let the kid breathe a big and enjoy the camp circuit a bit.

i'll be worried if we don't get a visit from him at some point this summer.

I know WhiskeyJack and Lax have mentioned this in other threads, but if we're moving to a 4-3 (or some derivation of it) we might not need a ILBs as badly as we think. We're still lacking depth, but it's a plausible explanation.

But why cool on Morgan but step up with offers to Kenny Young & Kevin Mouhon and increased interest in Deon Drake?

Is there a facial hair component we're missing to this? Could be a reason for the mixed signals we're getting from the staff and the media.

I have a source VERY close to the situation. After speaking tonight, below are some thoughts on today's posts...

There are no academic issues. Morgan is a 3.4-3.5 GPA student with 25 ACT (I'm not familiar with the ACT so not sure what this means). Morgan has made the honor roll almost every semester of HS (from google, not source). Whether or not there are academic issues with ND (e.g. foreign language) I don't know, but he is an above average student.

Morgan is a high character kid. He's quiet and reserved, but a leader with his head on straight. I would not compare him to the high profile kids that have come out of Crete recently (not saying they were low character, but Morgan is his own person).

Wiltfong has consistently said that there is no such issue. It's safer to assume that Morgan just isn't as high on us as Loy thinks or he just isn't ready to decide yet.

Morgan is going to go the distance. He is not high maintenance and doesn't need constant badgering from the staff. My guess is they know this and rumors of us cooling on him are baseless.

I think you're spot on with the first part. Re: the second part, I wouldn't be concerned with whether or not he visits this summer. He's visited before and, as I said above, this is going the distance. As long as we get an official (we will), I wouldn't be concerned.

My source didn't know which way he was leaning but did say there has been a strong push from the SEC at the school recently (as we know). Regardless, ND will be in it until the end and will be battling the likes of Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. I like our chances but don't read too much into anything that comes out unless you hear it directly from Morgan.

Re: his ability, my source confirmed everything we and the experts already know. Kid is a stud.

NDWorld247 and drake29 both have sources they are confident in but are pretty much saying the opposite about Morgan. Hmmm.....

From what I've seen from Wiltfong gonna have to side with NDWorld247 on this one

Wiltfong talked to another source over the weekend and Vandy is indeed the team to beat.

Can't understand why a Chicago kid would want to go to Vandy over ND.
