I have a source VERY close to the situation. After speaking tonight, below are some thoughts on today's posts...
True, if the rumors that Morgan has academic or character issues have any validity, then it would make sense that we've cooled on Morgan, but Wiltfong has consistently refuted those rumors. Wiltfong has a lot more credit with me than Loy right now, so I'm tempted to call b.s. on Loy here.
There are no academic issues. Morgan is a 3.4-3.5 GPA student with 25 ACT (I'm not familiar with the ACT so not sure what this means). Morgan has made the honor roll almost every semester of HS (from google, not source). Whether or not there are academic issues with ND (e.g. foreign language) I don't know, but he is an above average student.
Morgan is a high character kid. He's quiet and reserved, but a leader with his head on straight. I would not compare him to the high profile kids that have come out of Crete recently (not saying they were low character, but Morgan is his own person).
Wiltfong has consistently said that there is no such issue. It's safer to assume that Morgan just isn't as high on us as Loy thinks or he just isn't ready to decide yet.
Morgan is going to go the distance. He is not high maintenance and doesn't need constant badgering from the staff. My guess is they know this and rumors of us cooling on him are baseless.
no plausible reason I can think of to not push for this kid...other than the fact that perhaps the staff is giving him his space right now and not pushing too hard to let the kid breathe a big and enjoy the camp circuit a bit.
i'll be worried if we don't get a visit from him at some point this summer.
I think you're spot on with the first part. Re: the second part, I wouldn't be concerned with whether or not he visits this summer. He's visited before and, as I said above, this is going the distance. As long as we get an official (we will), I wouldn't be concerned.
My source didn't know which way he was leaning but did say there has been a strong push from the SEC at the school recently (as we know). Regardless, ND will be in it until the end and will be battling the likes of Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. I like our chances but don't read too much into anything that comes out unless you hear it directly from Morgan.
Re: his ability, my source confirmed everything we and the experts already know. Kid is a stud.
