Nelson knew BK was going to call him tonight and also knew he wanted to commit to ND. He talked to his family before the call and told them, they were happy he had made a decision. BK calls him later but Nelson didn't commit right away, he let BK talk. BK asked where he was in the process (Nelson told him he needed some more time), talked to him for 15 minutes about how badly the staff wants him Irish, and told them they'd wait until February if necessary. They finished the conversation, and hung up. Nelson called him right back and committed, made BK's day.

The great run of ND OLines ended in '93 with Taylor's class (Cerrato's last class). The '98 OLine of Petitgout, Wisne, Merandi, Ridder, and Rosenthal was good but had no depth at all. There have been OLines with an outstanding player like Fayne but not across the line nor any kind of depth.

During Kelly's first 3 years ND lost a number of OLs to tragedy, family situations, academics, and career ending injury. Those players would be upperclassmen now, some starters, others providing critical depth where now we look to freshman as ND doesn't take JUCOs.

Kelly is whiffing less by far on OLs than his 3 predecessors and Harry seems to be developing the talent something that didn't seem to be the case in years.

We're adding quality and quantity personnel in addition to the upgrades to the coaching staff.

They'll still have to show it on the field but the big uglies are going to move the chains.
