***Mandatory statement implying anything we say about this 5-star RB is spring-fever/ hyperbole because (1) we've seen it all before and it didn't work out, (2) college is a huge jump for any freshman, (3) performing incredible feats of athleticism doesn't mean he can block, etc., etc..***

I really think he is going to be our leading rusher this season, regardless of who starts game 1.

If he spends as much time in the film room as he does in the weight room, he should see his share of touches next year.

TJ Yeldon just last year shows me Freshman can contribute right away if they are physically and mentally ready. I think it's safe to say GB has the physical aspect covered.

The thing I liked about Greg was that he did all the other things beside running the ball well too. (Blocking, catching, etc.)

Yup. Lots of big time Fr. RBs in the SEC over the last few years.

I'm not going to say it won't happen, because it's been apparent for some time that he's more than ready physically, but I think the demands on a RB in Kelly's system differ substantially from many other college programs...particularly run-it-down-your-throat SEC teams. Just judging from past comments and actions, it seems that Kelly and the coaches are pretty hesitant to really utilize RBs until they are proficient at pass blocking, route running, and catching.

That being said, I do see him getting some quality time this fall, I just think it will happen more gradually whereas I think some others are expecting him to begin fall camp as the top option. I think the only factors that will hold him back will be his ability to pick up on the nuances of the offense and Kelly and Martin's willingness to adjust their offensive scheme to accommodate a freshman that will probably need some time to get fully up to speed.

Exactly. I think BK has shown that he's willing to adjust things when we have obvious players of strength.

From what I've seen and been hearing about Greg, he's going to be a freak. BK might be tempted to line Golson up under center and pound the rock off tackle/up the gut for a while.

He was used in the Army AA game a lot as the 3rd down blocking back. I would like to think that is because the coaches there saw that he can do it well, or at least better than the other guys there. No doubt he will have to learn how to do it at the college level but I'm confident that he will be able to get pick it up quickly.

people forget he is a great pass catcher, but can he pass protect.

And this is huge, as he wouldn't be a liability out there for Golson.

Basically it boils down to him learning the playbook. If only he were an EE...

He has stated in interviews that he knows blocking is imperative when it comes to succeeding at a collegiate level. So, I'd assume he's found ways to work on it.

imo rb pass pro is 90% mind set. most incoming freshman haven't developed that mind set yet.

when Cierre started taking Manti after practice to work on pass pro it want because he physically wasn't capable it was because he had to develop that mind set needed to put your body in front of a a rushing bull when you are usually standing flat footed.

Well, me along with many others are looking fwd to fall to see what GB can do. I am not sold on Amir as he has that injury bug, but hope he can overcome. GA3 showed exactly the same issues in the BG game that we (I) saw last year-the inability to keep the shoulders low. CMD has shown, IMO, to be the only RB who can do it all-again, IMO. GB has a chance-if the wishful thinking about pass pro are ture, then he could be "da man" at RB. I can see GB sharing time with GA3, Amir, and CMD back there. Stoked for Fall already!

GB may be the only RB on the roster who can run between the tackles so I really really hope he hits the ground running when he gets to south bend.

no love for Run CMC?

Can't wait to see Bryant take the field for ND. He could easily be a 3 or 4 year starter and break all sorts of records if he stays healthy

I love Cam more than most, but I don't think he'll make a living between the tackles.

McDaniel doesn't look the part, but he has major league leg churning low-pads strength [watching his runs closely, consistently indicates a powerful little warthog with no quit]. This of course says nothing about whether he'll get to carry the ball much, but I'm with Mike Mayock here. Mayock said that he'd be very comfortable with an RB tandem of GAIII and CMD, if GAIII can achieve ball security and lower his pads for contact, and plant and "go" at the correct time. Mayock felt that CMD was a polished RB with no flaws other than lack of homerun hitting.

My crystalball is always cracked, but I'd be happy {if, say, Amir couldn't get truly healthy} starting the season with CMD and GAIII sharing carries, and Bryant replacing GAIII by October if GAIII didn't improve on his deficiencies. Folston could then worm in as he too progressed. I realize that this is unpopular with trackspeed lovers, but that's my current vision. I like rapid "seeing" of things and decision-making, and I like yards-after-contact. I also REALLY like ball security and blocking.

I'm not too worried about this- IMO there are 3 possibilities

-Between GAIII, Amir and CMD, the upperclassmen have it figured out and the coaches are happy. GB comes in, but isn't good enough to force his way into carries right from the get-go, so he'll learn pass protection while waiting his turn.

-Bryant comes in and is just too good to keep off the field, and can already pass protect. It's all good in the hood.

-Bryant comes in and is just too good to keep off the field, but can't pass protect yet. IMO if this happens, Alford and BK will ensure that he can pass protect by Temple. If he's as good as advertised, they'll make it happen.

With our coaching staff and the amount of talent we've got at RB, there's no way Alford leaves us without great options at RB this year.

I completely understand everyone's excitement over Greg Bryant, but not to the total exclusion of Tarean Folston. It is like a forgone conclusion on here that he does not factor in at running back this year. Do you guys know something I don't?

Can I ask why no one is mentioning Mahone. Is it because of the spring game? The offense was inept to say the least overall. Is there some other footage I am not privy to that would make someone doubt him over younger non early enrollees? Serious question.

I think part of it is the recent trend of high profile RB's making early impact. I think the other part is that we still don't have a freaking clue what Mahone is going to be for us. He has potential but running up against our own D with starters missing on the Oline was not a good way to showcase his abilities. Stuffing the run is kinda what our defense is good at. I think he is a good player and will have some time on the field, but too much drooling over Bryant is the main cause I believe.
