Not all the parents want their kids go to ND. Toney Hurd's parents are an example.

The worst part is that he visited once the campus and since then his interest is lower, or it seems. Usually is the opposite, kid who doesn't know a lot about ND but since he steps on campus he falls in love with ND.

Luckily for us, like i said before, if Starks commits to ND he is not a must anymore.

Is it the depth chart? He does have Folston and Bryant ahead of him his junior year considering they both stay for their senior season, and we have Mahone.

I think a lot of recruits will be taking their time to gauge how ND does this year. I don't think many will be joining early this year unless "he is all in." Unfortunately getting rolled in the NC game was not great. On the positive side, we had our best class in years last year.

I think I remember Kelly saying this class was about building depth. Convincing kids to become part of depth is possibly a little harder to sell. I don't know how Alabama has 8 QBs but the bigger questions is "how do they have 8 QB's?"

to me by his film.....Elijah was a rb we haven't had in a long time...he ran w/ authority,speed etc...imo is on a different tier than starks....very disappointed

he gone...say what you want about being a long time until signing day...when the distance is a factor...this doesn't change in months...its either you will leave or you won't...

While I agree, the easy counter to that would be that once we start playing the ACC schedule, they can see him play that way.

The simple facts are we don't need much at running back this year and some kids (including a certain quarterback and defensive lineman) cannot live without their parents active in their lives. Sometimes it is healthy, sometimes it is not. This isn't about judging. Some kids cannot live without their parents maintaining an active role in their lives well into their twenties.

The only thing I will take a floater on, is it isn't about being in the stadium. Because if it is about seeing him play, with the ACC schedule kicking in, there is no school outside of North Carolina that will provide them the chance to see him that ND does; can you spell NBC? In fact, who would argue that they would actually be able to see as many games at UNC?

That's fine. If the kid wants to go to school close to home that is his right, and there really isn't much our coaches can (or should) do about it. Can't be mad at the kid for feeling how he feels, and certainly can't be mad at the staff. It is what it is, so no cause for angst. On to the next one.

More than UNC has been discussed as possible schools "closer to home." Also, if people ever pay attention to "stats" regarding school rankings, then we should all know that a lot of that is BS. I can compose a lot of crap data to positively represent a school...then show you afterwards that that "school" is actually a prison GED program.

Yes, I'm aware that ND isn't the end-all, be-all of schools in the country. Hell, I didn't even apply to ND in high school because I felt it was lacking in some regards and chose to attend a different school that I felt was "better."

Please reread my original post and notice that it is based only on what we've HEARD/READ (without direct knowledge) the past couple of days and months about him and his family.

As for the bolded portion, no personal disrespect meant to you ndman3, but life decisions we make when we're 16, 17, and 18 years old aren't always the best decisions. Human beings don't possess the experience and wisdom that older people (hopefully) possess. That's why parental influence and guidance is important. And again, basing this off only the anecdotal and reported info we have heard or read, it appears that parents may be trying to push their son into making a decision that is best for them...not their son.

But like Tater Tot said, let this play out...it's far from over.

I am just reminding you that although his parents want him to stay close to home, he will still get a good education at UNC. In other words, his parents aren't sacrificing his education or future for their own interests.

Except it's not UNC or ND. Other schools close to home are in play. At what point and with what school is he NOT getting a good education?

Of course you guys are right about this, but on this board we always point out that the question isn't how good the school is generally; it's how good of an education its athletes get. Michigan, for instance, is one of the best universities in the world, but its football GSR is second-rate and its football players often muddle along in degree programs that will get them nowhere they want to be.

At 75%, UNC's football GSR is only slightly better than Michigan's, and well below ND's.

At ND, African-American student-athletes are more likely than virtually anywhere else to graduate with marketable degrees that make them money in the real world.

Ya my statements are solely based on him going to UNC. So as to not disrespect anyone I won't say any names, but I can think of many colleges that do not offer good educations. Anyways, back to Hood...

We see this every year but parents across the board get nervous when it comes to seeing their little boy leave the nest. It will take a little time for them to come around but I have the utmost faith they will.

If this is what Hood wants and we have seen nothing saying otherwise (unprovoked), then I think there is nothing to fear. Even after his awesome visit to Michigan, we still led. Somebody asked him on twitter a week ago who is top school was and he said ND. I'm sure he would have committed by now but he needs to get his parents on board.

With the ACC now in our pocket, BK has a way in to his parents. With Spring Ball starting I am sure BK has had his hands full lately which is why you hear guys talk about ND cooling off on some dudes.

For the 88 billionth time, this is a marathon, not a sprint.
