Undeserving in my mind.

Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens on a deal that's expected to make him the highest paid quarterback in NFL history, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The two sides will work on the contract language throughout the weekend and Flacco is expected to sign the deal Monday in Baltimore, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Flacco played out his rookie contract last season for $6.76 million.

Capping a perfect postseason, the unassuming and unheralded Flacco completed 22-of-33 passes for 287 yards and three first-half touchdowns, earning Super Bowl MVP honors for leading the Ravens to a 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

He wrapped up Baltimore's four-game run to the title with a record-equaling 11 TD passes and zero interceptions, going 73 of 126 for 1,140 yards. It was an impressive streak that included road victories against two of the game's most respected quarterbacks, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, and a first-round home win against No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Luck.

The 28-year-old Flacco, a fifth-year pro, threw for 22 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions in the regular season. He has thrown for 17,633 yards, 102 touchdowns and 52 interceptions in 80 career games.

Flacco is the only quarterback to win a postseason game in each of his first five pro seasons. He also holds the record for playoff road wins with six.

Love it. Eat up as much cap space as possible. Meanwhile the Steelers have restructured Big Bens deal and the Pats have extended Brady while saving cap space.

Bad move, but if the Ravens didnt pay him, somebody else would. It is what it is, and he'll be highest paid until the next QB is due for a raise.

He got rewarded for an awesome four game stretch. Guess they overlooked the rest of his mediocre career.

im not a flacco fan per se, i got nothing against him...but its not like he is JaMarcus Russell, or Carson Palmer...I might have my stats wrong, but I think Flacco, after just 5 years, has the most playoff road wins in NFL history. he cant be all that bad.....he completely blows away any QB that has been on the OAK roster since 2003. Considering he hasnt necessarily hit his prime yet(or just about to), i dont think its such a bad deal, other than locking up a large portion of their salary cap for BAL. They will restructure his deal in the years to come, and flacco will still get his $$$$$.

I generally think Ozzie Newsome does a good job (as much as I hate the Ravens), but this makes no sense. Flacco isn't better than the 20th best QB in the league. Hell, I'd have let him walk and traded for Alex Smith before I gave him "elite" money. Oh well. As I said, I hate the Ravens so I'll sign up for this move everyday and twice on Sundays. Baltimore was already the worst team to win a Super Bowl in my lifetime, now at least I know that they can't win another one.

And that is why he transferred, so he could be successful.

Making any one player the highest paid anything is team suicide. Manning got it, Brady got it. In 3 years when the Ravens can't do anything in regards to cap room he'll be restructuring just the same.

Dumb deal for the ravens. Flacco is good and I like him but now they will lose 3 or 4 other players since they have no money left.

As a Browns fan do I like the fact that a slightly-above-mediocre QB will be eating up $20 million of my rival's cap space for the next 6 years?

Yes. Yes I do.

In all seriousness, I consider Flacco to be only a slightly better QB talent than me, and I work in a very tall building. This actually makes me giddy that the Ravens are spending real money on a replacement-level player.

If he plays like he did during this post season super bowl run then its a solid deal. However, I doubt that will happen. Pay him or someone else will, nature of the business.

In a league where QB value is hyperinflated, he was gonna get paid...

I guess they decided they'd rather overpay than risk turning into the Chicago Bears of the late 2000s, great team, no QB.

*oh and there's always the chance he'll improve to match the money i guess?

I doubt that anyone else would have paid him that kinda money.

You know who held that record before he did? Mark Sanchez.

Hilarious that Mark May is too stupid to realize the true meaning of his statement.

Funny too a lot of people bashing this deal (me included) have icons of NFL teams below their name that are for teams that would kill for 2 SB titles in the last 10 or so years, and are franchises the Ravens s--t on.

Win, and win now. If they let Flacco walk, they can't do that. It's easier to find mid-level players at other positions.

I don't think he's worth the price tag, but he's very good. And he's now solidified their QB position for several years. We'll see how the cap hit hurts them.
