Josh was 5th in the 60m dash and 6th in the 200m at the Big East Championships today. He helped the Irish men win the Big East Championship. Pictured above with the trophy.

Bennett has that kind of footwork? You're kidding me. Props to him if he does.

I will not predict much this year, but I will say this: The loss of DGb (plus Neal), Decker, and Darby, (A whole stable of Corners, Jackson, Wood, Brown, Atkinson, etc.), with Tee, will leave ND just fine. It was more important not to lose any safeties or running backs . . . You get the point.

Go to Sunday and click on 100 meter dash results to see JA at #3 and GAIII at #4. 10.388 and something in between that and 10.461 for GAIII.

I posted this yesterday in GA3's thread, but its not as impressive as it looks (because of the wind). They had a 3.2m/s tailwind well above the legal limit of 2.0m/s.

Note: times can be converted to no wind using this site:
Wind/Altitude correction in the 100m sprint
Giving Josh a 10.55 and George a 10.62.

Obviously still impressive, but not as earth shatter as a 10.39 would be.

Not bad considering they are freshman competing against seniors in some instances.

GAIII ran 10.36 with 2.2 wind in the qualifier, Josh ran 10.50 with 2.5 wind to qualify.

Any way you slice it, these boys have nice speed. Anyone know what their personal bests are for the 100M? I posted in another thread a link showing Rocket's best 100m at 10.34.

issue for him now is that he's playing behind a freshman all american that's only going to get better. hopefully like said he fine tunes the technique and is ready when he's called on.

Would really love to see alot of the DB's step up and force situations where they can be relied upon to play in a rotation rather than just garbage time

Josh Atkinson is a really great young man. Imagine playing in the shadow of your twin brother who shares his father's name... why GAII did that ,,, uggh, a psychological mistake. Josh always had that great smile when interviewed with his brother. "George Atkinson The Third!" his brother would say. "Josh Atkinson The FIRST!" he would say and laugh. Bless him.

I'd really like to see him get good playing time, but I can't easily see it. Keivaree Russell is a stud. When Bennett Jackson leaves, there is the shot. We know that Wood, Brown, all three 2013 rooks, and maybe even a couple of safeties are gunning for it. Can Josh push his way in there? There's one other place: punt returns. That's what he did in high school. If Neal gets out of there and just starts at slot, maybe that is an opportunity.

Wish you the best, youngster.

He's cross training at the slot since he's the #7 CB on the team.

And he's contemplating transferring as well. In reality, this won't affect depth one way or another except on special teams.

There we go.

Honestly, this just opens up a scholarship. I hope he stays because he's a vet and will help on specials, but I wouldn't lose sleep either way.

Wow. Interesting news about the slot. Further evidence that Kelly is reimagining that position as a spot for fast, physical blockers.

Surprising that he'd consider transferring now though. I'm not sure I can recall a player going through fall camp and then deciding to transfer before the upcoming season. If we had two do that this season ... strange.

Josh doing it makes more sense than Lo though. Josh didn't take a redshirt year, so he can't graduate and then take advantage of the students-with-degrees-can-transfer-without-sitting-out-a-year rule, as Lo can. If he's gonna transfer and have to sit, he'd like to have two years remaining at the new school.

Also, who is behind him? Kinlaw?

This.

It wouldn't be a bad thing. Natural attrition is part of football.

Now if they could only hang on to 2014 recruits. :(

I'm amazed that we even have 7 CBs. Remember last year at this time when we were all wondering what the heck this team was going to look like at corner? What a difference a year makes.

I'm worried about special teams depth. Josh is one of our starting gunners. If we lose him and Lo we would be down to like ~75 scholarship athletes, many of which can't (RS, offensive line depth) see the field. Doesn't leave many options for special teams if we don't want to play our starters there (which could be real bad with limited depth at some positions). This combined with our general suckiness on ST the past couple of years... not ideal.

We have enough safety/corner type guys that we'd probably be fine, but I basically agree with you. Josh is a great special teams player who we don't need to rely on otherwise, and we shouldn't take that for granted. Also, it would suck if we end up having to burn a redshirt on Kinlaw or Butler because Josh left (although Butler likely won't redshirt anyway, if he's playing as well as we are hearing).

Lets turn special teams into a season long "go-getter" positional fight. See who has the testicular fortitude to go lay some wood every time you are on the field. Let the cream rise to the top.

Serves 2 purposes. Gets killas on the field and identifies the playas. Didn't Kelly say he wanted to turn special teams into 11 guys who want to play special times, not 11 guys who just want to play?

This is a mostly tongue in cheek post. Mostly.
