I watch this guy's film and I see Eddie Lacy. This is the kinda guy we need to get every year.

With Robinson, Heuerman and Smythe making it impossible for defenses not to give safety help in the red zone, I can see a bruiser like this putting up LenDale White-type games and making it impossible to stop us inside the 10. The thunder to last year's lightning RBs.

I'm thinking more Devin Butler, bit more under the radar but works hard building relationships with other commits. I believe he tweeted EV the day before he committed as well so it certainly seems as though he'll be doing his best on the recruiting front.

So, looking at the class now and adding EH, Trumbetti, and Gibbons (if ever offered) and I would say a pretty damn good start.

Updated story with some more quotes.

He can't find anything wrong with Notre Dame. "Once [he] leaves Notre Dame" he knows he will be set up. Likes the big picture ND offers. No other visits set up now, mentioned he wants to see Michigan too. He knows he has to get to Notre Dame first. Will have a decision before his season for sure but can't say when it would happen other than when the "moment feels right."

Class of '13 had Elmer, Matuska, Onowalu, McGovern, McGlinchey, Bivin, Zaire and Kinlaw before the end of March. Who thinks this class may surpass that one in terms of numbers or potential talent in a similar timeline? With 4 already on board and Hood and Trumbetti possible that would give the last class a run for its money. Will be interesting to see what else happens around Junior Day (through late March). Thoughts?
I don't know. The '14 class is going to be a small class, around 16-18 kids. ND might hold out for the huge fish this year.

I thought I read somewhere that there could be around 20-21, especially since we didn't use that last schollie that was going to be Hollins or Prevots. That's just a slightly smaller class than the '13 class.

I actually think we'll end up closer to 21 recruits when all is said and done.

If I counted correctly, we will have 69 eligible returning players after the 2013 season. If we take all 5th years, that would leave us with only 16 recruits. Good chance Nix will be gone so that leaves 17.

The players with an extra year of eligibility are: Collinsworth, Heggie, Hendrix, Lombard, Massa, K Moore, Nix, Utupo, Welch, and Lo Wood.

Of that group, I can see Lombard, K Moore, and possibly Utupo, Welch, Wood, and Collinsworth being asked back. Nix definitely would be wanted back but I don't think he would stick around. So that would free up 2 extra schollies and I doubt all 4 of those "possible" 5th years would be asked back so probably 2 more from there. I didn't include Tate because it sounds like he will be given a medical RS.

You're assuming there isn't natural attrition/transfers or medicals. There almost certainly will be one of both of those.

The number is 18 right now. Nix will leave and it looks like Tate Nichols will go on medical scholarship. If Tuitt leaves, that makes it 19. After that who knows? Transfers, injuries, or passing on 5th years. I don't think I want any of that.

To clarify his post for some of you, the number is 22, but with 4 commits in 2014 already, it is currently 18. :) This number includes 5th year taken, but I do not think many 5th years will be taken next year. Nix will go to the Draft, Lombard is the only guaranteed 5th year in my opinion. Collinsworth (depends on how he does next year), Moore (depends on ILB depth next year), Wood (depends on how he does next year). No reason to ask Welch back if we get a TE in the 2014 class, the rest are all big no's.

Agreed, another big year and you won't be able to turn the kind of talent away that will want in. Within reason of coarse. This isn't Alabringemallineveniftheygotagreyshirtorwaitforsomeonetogetcutoraresstedsotheycansecureaspotforaoneyearscholarship_Sabanomics

If Welch recovers, he will be asked back, because he was one step short of being the next great tight end. He was ahead of Rudolph out of high school, (same). He just had a freaky injury two years in a row, with Tyler Eifert ahead of him.

I will speculate the class will be 23 witha couple transfers and medical s offset with a couple 5th years. Lombard and _______.

This is if we go to bcs or better...

Agree

If he can catch the ball and block as well as anyone we have? Because that is what we have in Alex. If he can recover. Anything less is a serious underestimate of talent.
