It seems all our remaining eggs are in the EV basket. Doesn't seem like anyone else could possibly be coming.

That list of players that they still have a chance to land is ridiculously impressive.

Which is absolutely fine as long as the rest of the Mob sticks. EV is a titanic sized cherry on top though. My head would freaking explode.

You're forgetting a few things bro -

#1 - weather. No idea if that affects EV but it does affect some (Ego Ferguson to name one).

#2 - comfortability w/ coaches - EV has built up a phenomenal relationship with the coaches at UCLA. When a recruit is calling YOU, then you're doing something right. I'm not sure he has the time to build up relationships with ND and Bama coaches (he eliminated ND pretty early on, so we weren't recruiting him as hard as other schools I'm sure).

#3 - comfortability w/ other commits - Let's face it, he has been around UCLA's commits more than ND's. Not as much as USC's obviously, but because of where he plays and the types of camps and All-Star games he's been to, he knows UCLA's guys probably more than ND's players. I know that from all reports though, he did get along great with the ellas while on the OV, so that's good.

Now, I could be off on all these things, but they could be factors in steering EV towards UCLA (especially #2)...

I almost put weather in but let's be serious it isn't much of a discriminator over Tuscaloosa. LA is overrated... it's not so amazing that it's actually a trump card over other southern places.

Relationship with coaches? At this point that's pretty moot to me. All of this is second hand. For all we know he loves Ed O more than anyone and has eliminated USC. But he definitely has the most longstanding relationship with the UCLA coaches... sometimes momentum > familiarity though.

Relationship with recruits? I can't tell how much this is overplayed or not. Does it really matter to him? As you said, he's better friends with the USC commits than anyone and he's almost certainly not headed there.

Eddie V is focused on his future not the past or a 1 year relationship imho.

He knew he was Irish and thats why his mother was here and not in Alabama .

He was done with USC the day he switched visit dates.

He would have shut it down and not brought his family on all these visits if he loved ucla.

Go Irish!

If the kid is serious about his football career then weather should be an afterthought. That being said, LA weather is WAAAAAAAAAAAY better than what you'll find in the south. Average temp in LA is between 60-75. I lived in Montgomery Alabama while I was in the military and the weather was terrible. Hot and sticky. You don't get anything like that in LA.

Southern California weather isn't overrated. There is a good reason why so many people live down here. But I agree that it should not be a trump card - football is what matters.

Just giving you a had time. No worries. My sarcasm doesn't come across the forums too well sometimes.

I don't know this ArcGIS.

I can see LA being overrated in general... but weather wise?...

San Diego is my fav. city I have been to.

Weather though??? Both are NOT overrated... great weather in both cities... , San Diego especially, best weather in the country.

Worrying about weather while playing football is ridiculous to me. Love football in the cold, snowy weather. It's where its meant to be, IMO. Give me cold weather football 10 out of 10 times. It's the least thing I think about when discussing football. Besides, where do you go when you want to get away? Another warm place? Not for me.

Gonna be tough to beat mom. He's been away for a little while so when they have their sit down and she says her peace, look out.

While I have little doubt that UCLA leads at this moment, Manti was set to pick USC until he woke up on signing day.

I also look at the coaching staff and look at who is most likely to stay my 3-4 years and BK and his staff are much more likely to stay then Mora.

Umm doesn't sound great for us.

I had a feeling people were becoming too confident.
I know his mom liked ND, but there are still other factors that people were ignoring.
It sucks that we're gonna miss this kid, but lets hit the d-line recruiting hard next year!

I spent a lot of time in San Diego in my first job. I understand Southern California. I've also traveled all over the country and been to every state except Washington, Louisiana, Oregon, and Alaska. I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that LA is overrated. I'm not even sure it's in the top 5 places in Cali.

It's not in the top 5 and several parts of LA are complete shitholes. I'd put it way behind San Diego, the Bay Area, Monterey, Yosemite, Sequoia, and about 30 other places in CA. There are a few cool places in LA but I think the smog, crime, and ****** attitudes of people from there far outweigh a day at Universal Studios.

I agree it will suck to lose out on this young man. I think he would do well how ever we used him. But i was never sold on him coming to ND. He seems like a stay close type of kid to me. IMO. And not saying thats a bad thing i would rather him stay home and be comfortable then come to ND and then want to leave. All is good though in a little over 24 hours we will be working on the 14 class.

Well I LIVED in central Alabama and currently LIVE in Orange County (which is admittedly nicer than LA) and can tell you that LA is SIGNIFICANTLY nicer (subjectively).

Objectively....

Sunny Days 214 205
Avg. July High 91
Avg. Jan. Low 30.5
Comfort Index (higher=better) 29
UV Index 5.3 4.3
Elevation ft. 236

Climate Los Angeles, CA

San Diego is my favorite city in the union. I spent my almost my entire winter 2011 out there. LA doesn't even crack my top 10... Nor my top 5 for even the state of California. It's completely overrated to me. ****** traffic, annoying people, pollution, expensive, ... I guess I'm biased.

I just think when people go OMG THE WEATHER IS LIKE HEAVEN! It's completely overstating the importance/awesomeness of it all. It's a huge discriminator against South Bend or Siberia but against other places with warm weather it's just an unimportant smidgen better.

I agree with the bold part 100%. I avoid LA like the plague. However, the weather is freaking amazing, there is just no way to argue against that.
