Just was on rivals recruiting chat.
1. Dorian Johnson isn't going to switch over from Pitt.
2. In terms of Vanderdoes, Cassidy thinks ND, Gorney thinks UCLA.

FWIW Gorney's picks are out there for some. I believe he is also the one who had Redfield anywhere but ND. Once again, I hope he is wrong and EV comes NDs way

Gorney is a West Coast homer.

Seems odd that no one had picked Antognoli as next to pop. Although somewhere along the line, I'll bet someone did say AA would likely be next. Too soon?

Sounds like the 2 out of 3 comment from Smythe was referring to Deon Hollins and EV, so that's already partially debunked. Would assumed most pegged EV as one of the 2 from the outset.

I don't get the special teams hate going on in this thread. Next year we will probably only have 2 ST players on scholarship (1 LS and Brindza). I think 3 is pretty normal so I wouldn't mind another K/P getting a scholarship as long as he is a top 10 K/P. This year we were way too heavy on ST scholarships with 5 but some of you are acting like they are a waste. If you feel that way go ask Boise St and Oregon what it is like to have a crappy kicker.

He was a huge pickup for the price. All it takes is Brindza falling wrong on a kickoff while making a tackle, or slipping on a kick and we have no kickers. Bringing a kid with a ton of potential, and talked to a kid that has went and competed in camps with Andrew and he said the kid is legit.

And cheer up IE...we have at worst a top 3 class if we dont get anyone else. I dont think that will be the case so cheer up

Hope Kelly has a little more in store for us but you are right, this class is sick! Still a little sad about Hollins though, EV could really change my feelings around though!

All good points regarding the punting (kicking) situation. I'd like to see us amp up our Special Teams. I am most intrigued with your last sentence though.

I love our class the way it is and I like your optimism but I don't think we'll have a top 3 class if we miss from here on out. With that said rankings don't mean all that much, just like the idea of closing strong.

Didn't they just get a top 10 tight end???

With recruiting and "pleasing fans" it's all about timing if they got Bryant or Redfield this week or signing day people would be saying that it was a great class.

Now it's just ok???

He already has a better net punting average than Turk as a HS senior. So.... yeah, this is a big pickup... and we didn't even have to use a scholarship. That's awesomesauce.

It is indeed a very good class. I am very happy with it as it is now. And another strong addition will only make me smile more. Really hope we get 1-2 more commits to make
this class truly exceptional.

I just breathed a LOT easier with the walk-on punter coming. We really did not know if Brindza COULD even punt under pressure in the games, let alone what might happen with injury or sickness. This stuff can lose you games where you clearly outplay the opponent and royally screw up the punts. [Think blocks; ten-yard shanks from your 20 yard line; no pinning the other guys back or even flipping the field].

Thank God for Kelly and his "don't miss anything" excellence at roster management. Next season just got brighter --- and, yes, it was "only" a punter.

I am not trying to be disparaging to Turk--and I know a lot of people were high on him this year based on a couple of key stats--but I had no doubt that Brindza could perform as well as Turk. Turk was, as they say, "good but not great."

If he stayed healthy, that is! Injuries are a different matter. I agree that this was a smart pick-up.

Only thing that made me doubt it is Brindza couldn't win the job from Turk when they held that in-season competition in 2011, when Turk was punting TERRIBLY. Some people were talking about it on BGI recently, and Lou (the managing editor, I believe) chimed in that he watched some of the practices while the punting competition was going on and Brindza was nowhere close to winning the job. Wasn't looking good at all. So I'll just say I'm with OMM ... VERY glad we got a good punting prospect in this class, and thrilled we didn't have to use a schollie to do it.
