Nope, no high horse. Just amazed at some of what I see from people who claim to be bright and broad-minded. It's no different from any other sort of stereotyped insults or bigotry towards any group: "SEC schools are just football factories and the players don't go to class" or "All Southerners are illiterate sister-marrying hicks" or some other such silly drivel. It's the sort of thing an insecure and uninformed person says to make himself feel superior, but it shows a level of ignorance that exceeds what you're making fun of.
You'd blow a gasket if someone did the same thing to your ethnic group, religion, culture, or anything else, yet you see nothing wrong doing it yourself. Most of you are above that. A few of you feel a need to do it in this particular area because of the BCSCG and a need to feel superior to us about something again.
Yeah... that's really not it. It's because we're all very sick of coaches obfuscating academics to recruits. Whether it's Kiffin or Urban Meyer or whoever they ALL do it when recruiting against Stanford or ND or the regional equivalent. So when you said:
As for academics, I know you guys really love that stereotype, but let's see if you know which football program has produced the most academic All-Americans over the past 5 years.
It hit a nerve for a lot of people, myself included. We've heard tons upon tons of recruits say things like "Did you know USC is #1 business? Kiffin told me so!" and it makes us want to break sh*t because it's a bold faced lie... and the coach is basically screwing with a kid's future/education for his own personal gain.
Alabama hypothetically saying something like "pffft Vandy? You think their academics are good? We have the most academic All-Americans in recent history" is just an extension... not quite as bad and not lying... just like how South Carolina saying they have a top rated international business program isn't be lying... but it's intentionally misleading.
That's why people jumped on you. From your other posts, I can tell you're a good guy and a smart dude. And I'm sure you never expected this kind of backlash. But now you know you can't just come drop an academic talking point like that on here and not expect people to tear into it.
It has nothing to do with the NCG. It has nothing to do with you. And it really doesn't have anything to do with Alabama. More than anything it has to do with the recruitment of Amir Carlisle, etc. and this is just transference.
I, personally, hope you stick around and keep posting... because the officiating thread was really good and it'll be a long offseason.
