Other than being back in his home state, what does OSU offer that we dont? My guess would be that Meyer is offered him a much higher pay?
A couple of things, someone posted that Hinton had a bunch of years coaching in the STATE of Ohio which puts him in the STATE pension plan and he needs a couple of years of to fill it out AND he rounds out his resume coaching under a National Championship winning coach.
Lots of coaches work under more than one head coach to get grooming/exposure for consideration as a head coach down the road. Hinton has solid work experience, adding a stint under a NC coach and at a BCS Conference Major does look good on a resume.
Barry Alverez was an assistant at Iowa under Hayden Fry for a half dozen years or so after a HS coaching career. He was the LB coach at IA and came to ND as LB coach. After a year Holtz made him DC and two years later he left to become HC at WIS.
