Thank you gents.

To be more specific:

Would you add any of these to your collection?
SCAR looks nasty....not sure what it would be used for...
General Comments.

PHGREEK thanks for the values....seems inline with what they are asking.

I don't know the SCAR or SKS market place, so I'm no help there.

Any of the Remingtons and the Browning for either use or collection.

for collection, particularly the remington 6mm and the 870 20g. because those will likely be more valuable faster...JMHO. For the Rifles, The trick is to find out which flavor of 700 are we talking about.

For instance, if they have a Model 700 C (Custom) Grade IV...thats a $5k rifle new. A 700 BDL is about 500 bucks. You need to know the specific Model beyond 700 to ; a) understand if you are getting value now; and b) how fast it will accrue value.

If you know more specifics I can tell you a ballpark +/- a few bucks. Then find a local auctioneer, and ask him what he'd pay...this is where you get an idea of "wholesale", and my number would be more like "retail"...then you go from there.

Hope that helps.

Do any of you guys own a .22 hornet? I am wondering if any other .22's can fire the .22 hornet round. Does anyone have a .22 that will take the hornet and other .22 rounds?

22 Hornets are entirely different from a 22 Long Rifle or Short. The have a necked much longer casing and is center fired while the others are rim fire. My dad has a 22 hornet up in Michigan he uses for woodchucks and other varmints...its a good round.

So that round is pretty much exclusive to the hornet then. I am trying to figure out which .22 semi I want to get but I definitely want one that can take a .22 LR and a .22 mag. I'll have to keep looking. I was checking out the Sig 522 and the MP15 but I need to make sure which rounds they'll take.

Yes it is its own beast. I don't know if you will be able to find a 22 to take the Longe Rifle and Magnum...I have a revolver that takes both but I have to swap cylinders. I have a old Remington Model 12 that take both the 22 LR and 22 SR

Yeah, I don't think it is made in a rifle. I guess the LR will have to be enough.

Mostly some varmint hunting (squirrel) but an additional home defense weapon. I already have a tactical shotgun and a 9mm for that, but I need something my wife and kids would be able to shoot. Just in case, of course.

22s are great for small game and for the family learning to shoot comfortably, and the ammo is dirt cheap. Look at the Ruger 10/22, it is a great firearm.

Funny, I was just talking with a buddy of mine about the pf9. From what I hear you are getting what you paid for, with high risk feed and eject issues. Not something I would bet my life on. I have no first hand experience, so I am really curious what your take is after the 200 rd break in. Let me know!

For my money (and piece of mind) to carry I lean toward glock 30, kahr cw45, or the xds.

Xds is coming out in a 9mm model this year I believe, I'm itching for it.

I really want to shoot the CZ Rami or the PCR (looking at you Veer).

see this is what i was concerned about...but it's 12oz fits in pocket although i carry a holster that goes down pants...but a friend of mine has one...and goes at least monthly to the range and fires his and never once had an issue...so idk...it was a steal for 249

and the gun shop says that they have never had any issues w/ them...they could have easily pushed a higher $$ gun so i would think that they seem to feel confident in them...

Yeah I will be anxiously awaiting your review. Like you say, you have that warranty. I have heard of people sending theirs in after terrible feed errors and getting them back (after 50 bucks shipping out of pocket) with not another complaint. Like you say, I have also read of people loving them and having no issues at all.

I'm sure you will have a much better idea of where you stand after putting a few hundred rounds through her. Goodluck!

he did say that he doesn't use cheap ammo so that could also be part of it w/ others

Dick Tracy snub nose 38 with spring propelled plastic bullets, Greenie Stickum Caps and a plastic shoulder holster.

I think I was 8 at the time. Almost put my twin sister's eye out. Good thing she wore thick glasses ...

That's back when they used actual soda bottle ends to make the glasses wasn't it?

Haha, I thought so too.

My uncle sent me this one a few months ago. I feel bad for all you California gun owners.

Not only was that retarded, it has nothing to do with California. I'm not a fan of the state's laws regarding firearms, but if someone wants to try to break into my home, the loaded Springfield Arms XD 18" from my shooting hand is going to have something to say about it.

7.62 x 54R in 10 round, bottom loading magazines. All still California legal. Going to have to pull the trigger on one of these for one of my Mosin Nagants.

That is freaking awesome. Really can spruce up the old mosin with that!

Going shopping for a hand gun this afternoon for myself and my girlfriend. Being I've never shot a gun before, hell even my girlfriend has more experience than I do, and after some internet research I've decided to focus my search on 38sp or +p (also a 357 with the initial us of 38 cartridges with the option for future growth), .380, and 9mm. At first I wanted a revolver, but have decided to keep my mind open. I plan on purchasing one that is small enough to eventually be my CCW gun. There is a gun shop considered to have the largest selection in the state only 30 mins away so this should give me the option to look at and hold about any option. Any favorites as far as smaller CCW guns anyone suggests? I just don't want to miss on an option.

This should get interesting as the opinions will vary from a Glock to a Ruger. From stopping power of a 380 v 45. Wait-don't forget the mid-range 40 cal.

Best bet IMO-go to the store and shoot alot of handguns. use the experienced professionals at the store (as long as we are not talking a big-box store-and it does not sound that way) to assist you in choosing weapons to shoot. Then go home.

Return with a whittled down list and shoot that list again until the right one stands out. You'll know-it may be down to two but you'll know which is the correct one for you.

What you need after this is range time. Take instruction or join a shooter league, which are alot of fun. Practice my friend-learn immediate action, proper indexing form, how to clear stoppages and change mags with speed.

Keep us posted-interested where your research leads. Good luck!

Ruger SP101. The thing is small but built like a tank. The extra weight helps alleviate some of the bite of the 357 and makes 38s feel like a joke. Not to mention it's a beautiful wheel gun and built to last.

A wheel gun is a great simple gun. It is easy to learn and easy to practice with. I personally don't have one but if/when I get one it will be a .357. I like the ability to practice with the .38s in it but have the .357 in case it is needed. If I buy a .38 it will only be half the options of a .357. As far as buying your CCW gun first remember that a smaller and lighter gun will recoil more but a bigger heavier gun will be harder to conceal and carry. I personally carry a 1911 concealed when I leave the house. One thing I have learned while carrying that gun is the biggest help for me carrying concealed is the width of the gun. My 1911 is a full frame gun and I carry it inside the waist band. Because it is so narrow I don't notice it as much and people can't see it. I also have a full size Smith & Wesson M&P .45. Because of the width of that gun it is a lot harder to carry concealed. It fit perfectly for my nightstand gun but if you want to carry something like that it won't be fully concealed.

As far as ammunition size I highly suggest you don't go with a .380 auto if you can help it. That being said I carry a .380 auto with me when I am at work. I personally can't carry a bigger gun than a sub compact at work. It is better than nothing but from me shooting it in the back yard it doesn't have really any power behind it. It is better than nothing at all but I would suggest a bigger round than the .380 auto if you can go that route.

As mentioned above if you have a place that will let you rent or shoot them before you buy to get a feel for them that will be a massive help. If you have a a friend with a variety of guns and he is willing to let you shoot them that would also help. I highly doubt it but if you are anywhere near NE Indiana come on over and we can go out back and check out what I have. Research on the internet is a big help, the feel of the gun in your hand can make or break the gun for you, and shooting the gun is the best overall research. Feel free to ask any more questions if you have them.
