It's starting to look like you could make an all-star team out of kids we are passing on this year. Schutt, Dieter, and now McNamara.

No kidding. I pray we land some of these remaining guys. I just think the Kiel defection was bad news.

I hope you're joking.

I'm not. You don't think those guys are talented? How about Mauk? We passed on him too.

I'm not saying that they are better than the guys we are getting or going after, just that they are talented kids.

We pass on a lot of talented kids every year. I don't think these kids are any better than ones from years past. I was never high on Dieter or Schutt. McNamara is a good player but I think we have a log jam.

I still don't get your "I hope you're joking" comment. I didn't realize that we passed on two top-10 players at their position last year... oh yeah... we didn't.

Even if we did, my comment still didn't deserve your response. We are still passing on talented kids. I didn't say that we shouldnt be, just that we are.

Good for him. I never thought we needed him considering we are so deep at the tight end position. I sure hope we get Brenneman now

Not so deep where it wouldn't hurt to get another one on committed. Especially a kid with the potential talent of McNamara.

Yeah, but do you take him where you have a lot of talent already at the expense of not being able to take another recruit at a position of need? And so you take him when you have a couple of TE's in next year's class very interested at the expense of not taking a 5th year guy like Cwynar or Golic (guy who could be invaluable next year in the case of the inevitable injury)?

TE, with Eifert presumable back and Koyack and Welch and even Golic, is not a spot we are in desperate need of next year. The following year? Absolutely. But with the numbers crunch this year and the guys we are in on (seriously...look at who we are recruiting and look at how many guys we can fit in) - this is not a huge need and I think the coaches did the right thing by passing...

any chance we go after him if eifert decides to leave? eric hansen from the south bend tribune was leaning toward him leaving the other day during his chat session.

Maybe you weren't high on them, but the people who named them all-Americans are.

Most of them were named high school All-Americans (especially Dieter) based upon high school production, not based upon any projection to the next level, which is what our staff has to offer, pursue, and choice prospects from. There is a reason Dieter's only two major offers are Kansas and SMU. There is a reason both ND and Michigan passed on Schutt. As for McNamara, I would have loved to have had him, but right now he would be a luxury more than a need. Like LA said, I am perfectly content in passing on TE this year to save room for the other targeted prospects right now considering our very limited space, and focus on the stud '13 TEs that we have already targeted and started recruiting heavily.
