Today is the Marine Corps birthday..


"The Few, the Proud": So says the motto of the U.S. Marine Corps, and so it is. The Marines are the smallest branch of the U.S. armed forces, but their reputation outmatches their size. Today, the marines celebrate their 235th anniversary, born before the country was in 1775.

"The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!" Eleanor Roosevelt once said.

The Marine Corps makes up less than 11 percent of the U.S. military but more than 23 percent of the Americans killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan,

Happy Birthday, Marines.

I just returned from the Marine Corps Birthday Ceremony held in our building. They present the colors, the Colonel gave a speech and acknowledged the WWII vets, Korean War Vets, and Vietnam Pilots. A recipient of the Marine of the Year works in our building and he was the honoree and he gave a speech. And then they present the honoree with the birthday cake, and he gives it to the oldest Marine for a bite and then the Oldest Marine gives it to the Youngest Marine for a bite.

It is a real solid ceremony.

One of the guys I work with is not in work today as he is down in South Philly at Cookies Tavern which hosts the Marine Corps birthday each year.
