Nah I won't. Sources initially said "there was mutual interest." Call me naive for believing it, but I did and do.
I just needed a better perspective on how the process works. In thinking about the timing, there really was no other way to do it. And maybe Jack lowballed him. Who knows.
I don't feel dumb for overreacting. Heck, it could also be considered just an average, reasonable "reaction." We have the #1 recruiting class. Recruiting is sensitive, and something like this could still have an effect.
I'm not suggesting that I don't want Brian Kelly. Just playing Devil's advocate with people. Everyone thinks everything is peaches and creme... What if it isn't? This place will f-ing erupt.
This is a message board afterall........
That wasn't directed at anyone in particular. To be honest, I came to this late, so I haven't read through most of the thread. I have seen a few posts expressing moral indignation that Kelly could "betray" ND like this, but that's simply naive. This is how the negotiation process works for top CFB coaches.
Fortunately for us, ND is one of the few destination jobs out there, and Swarbrick (thus far) has been an amazingly effective AD. Unless something very strange happens, I'm confident that this will result in Kelly receiving a well-deserved extension and raise, and nothing more will come of it.
In light of what he's accomplished, he's criminally underpaid. Given what happened with his predecessor, ND isn't in a hurry to give Kelly a 10-year extension. This is what he had to do to get some long-term security in his contract. He's earned it.
